Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Grant Stahla discuss the following:
(Host Eric Dye): Tell me about the usage and capacity for the 2 Stall Restroom Trailer.
(Guest Grant Stahla): Yeah, you bet. So like you said, Eric, I’m gonna be talking about two stall restroom trailers highlighting the usage and capacity. That’s one of our most common questions that we get when people talk about renting restroom trailers.
Typically, they are for single day events, you’re gonna have one stall for 75 people. So say you have 150 people for your one day event, and it’s a wedding in the country, 150 of your closest friends and family you might want. A 2 stall restroom trailer, of course, that’s not the max you can have. That’s not the minimum you can have, but it’s a pretty safe bet. They’re gonna have influxes. You’re gonna have need for more stalls depending on different situations. Like if you have a lot of alcohol at your event, maybe there’s a it’s a greater women to men ratio. Maybe the event is longer than than five or six hours. You might want to get some extra stalls, but just as a rough outline, typically it’s one stall per 75 people, so for a 2 stall restroom trailer you can support roughly up to 150 people for multi-day events, that’s going to be similar
You are going to want to if you have an event that lasts five or six hours or even up to 8 hours. You’re definitely going to want to have someone come out and pump out the waste tank before the beginning of the next day. So if you have a, say, it’s a golf tournament and it’s a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, golf tournament and people come out and they use the restroom trailer for five hours on Friday, you’re going to want someone to come pump out the waste tank, clean the restroom trailer before that Saturday use and then same thing Sunday morning so it works really well. You just want to come out and service it in between usage.
If you’re going over 5, 6, or 7 hours or if you are getting this for a long term, use like for a construction site then it’s gonna be 1 stall per about 15 workers. So for a 2 stall restroom trailer you can support up to about 30 workers on a construction site or even an office building, or anything that you’re needing a longer term usage. It’s gonna be that one stall for 15 workers. So if you’re getting a 2 stall restroom trailer, you can have up to 30 people using it. Of course, the less people that you have or the less smaller ratio that you have. If you have, you know about seven people per one stall, it’s going to be a little bit more of a comfortable upscale experience.
Of course, maybe you’re home alone at your house and you have one restroom per person. That’s always enjoyable. So by no means do you have to have 15 people for every one stall, but that’s just a general marker.
But yeah, Eric, that’s a quick overview of the usage and the capacity for that two stall restroom trailer.
(Host Eric Dye): Grant, how do companies typically determine how many restroom stalls they’ll need for events or job sites?
(Guest Grant Stahla): Absolutely yes. So usually they’re, you know, you’re calling in or people are reaching out to Stahla.com or calling us at 844-900-3190. That’s our phone number. And we’re happy to talk to them about it. Otherwise, just the ratios that I mentioned before, if it’s about one restroom per 75 people for an event. Up to you know, 5 to 8 hours per day and then one restroom for 15 people for long term usage. Those are the ideal ratios but you know, we’re we’re happy tobtalk to you about your unique event or or job site, but definitely an important question, Eric. So appreciate you asking about that.
(Host Eric Dye): Do you have any real-world use sases for 2 Stall Restroom Trailers?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, we have so many two stall restroom trailers which is actually the most popular trailer out there, closely followed by the four stall restroom trailer. Some of our commercial use cases is when there’s a big construction project. Maybe it’s a big data center or warehouse distribution center where you’re a multi acre site and you have people that are spread out working on different projects. You know, maybe a couple 100 yards away from different facilities and you wanna have a restroom available for those 10 or 20 workers that are in that area and you don’t want them to take an hour long break to be able to just go use the restroom or, wash their hands and get cleaned up so on long term commercial jobs, you’re gonna want 2 stall restroom trailers for those big multi acre facilities otherwise for events, I mean we use two stall restroom trailers. You can get them running for weddings, little golf tournaments at multiple holes and just all sorts of different areas where you either have a smaller amount of people, maybe have 50 people or 100 people at your event. Maybe it’s a little winery gathering or you have a graduation party. That’s where two stall restroom trailers really, really shine.
(Host Eric Dye) : Could you share a few examples of industries or specific scenarios where your restroom trailers are most commonly used?
(Guest Grant Stahla) Yeah. So they really, it’s anywhere people need to use restroom. It’s that, you know, it’s all sorts of use cases. There’s going to be disaster relief. There’s facility management when you have a building that the plumbing goes down or you have areas where people are having long distance, it’s smaller weddings with 75, 100 people, 150 people. Lots of different situations like that where you’re gonna need just a couple restrooms to be able to use the restroom, wash your hands and to be in a climate controlled environment. Those are some of the uses in industries where a two stall restroom trailer really shines.
(Host Eric Dye) : Tell me about the cost of renting a 2 Stall Restroom Trailer and of purchasing one new.
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, absolutely. That’s a good question ’cause, when you’re reaching out, you wanna know? You wanna know what it’s gonna cost ya? So I’ll run through some of the overall cost for the restroom trailer for the two stall, typically for an event you’re gonna be looking at anywhere from 1500 to $2000. Maybe just a little bit above $2000. You might have some trouble cost. We charge between 299 or 399 per loaded mile. So that’s one time there and back total for the trip. If you don’t have power or water available, you might have to rent a generator or have a spring water. So if you’re renting a generator, typically they’re gonna be anywhere from $200 to $400.00 just for for an event. If it’s a long term job and I’ll go over the the long term pricing here in a second, but a generator for long term, you’re looking at needing a towable generator, like a 20 kilowatt to a 30 kilowatt towable generator, and those run anywhere from I would say about $1500 per month to $3000 per month and then the additional cost might be additional fuel delivery for that to to keep that thing going.
If you’re needing a commercial weekly pricing for a two stall restroom trailer, that’s about $4700. For weekly pricing for commercial that’s seven day pricing if you want commercial 28 day pricing, that’s about $5300 and then that’s 28 days. So that’s if you’re going to need it for just one month, and then if you need it for anywhere from two to five months, that’s $3800 per 28 days. So that’s $3800 per 28 days. If the total rental is between two and five months and then if it’s six months plus, then your monthly rate is about $3000. So you can see how the pricing goes down. Even at a year and a half, it ends up being $2500 per month. So it really depends on if you need it for seven days, 28 days or a year. The pricing adjusts because it’s just based off of the total amount of time.
(Host Eric Dye) : Grant, what factors influence whether a client chooses to rent versus purchase restroom trailers?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, yeah, that’s a good question. Like I was saying that like that year and a half rental. Is $2500 per 28 days. So let’s do the math on that if you need. If you need it for 18 months at $2500, that ends up being $45,000. The price of a new two stall restroom trailer is right about $50,000. So if you need to rent a restroom trailer for 18 months, then it just about pays for the cost of purchasing a new trailer. Of course you need to handle all the other costs which are servicing the restroom, keeping it fixed, keeping it maintained, having a place to store it in between. You’re paying for insurance, you know all the extra fees that you don’t think about but a year and a half rental ends up being about the same prices as a new two stall restroom trailer, which is $50,000.
(Host Eric Dye) : What kind of specifications does the 2 Stall Restroom Trailer have?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah. Good question. We like to give customers the the specifications to make sure that it fits their location. So of course, on a 2 stall restroom trailer, there’s two stalls – I’m sure you wouldn’t have guessed that. So the length of the the box of the trailer is 10 feet and then with the tongue it’s 14 feet. So that tongue is an extra 4 feet. The width without the steps down is 6 1/2 feet and then with the steps down is 9 feet two inches.
The height of the restroom trailer is 9 foot 10 inches. Just the box. So that’s to the top of the white fiberglass box of the trailers, 9 foot 10 inches and then the height with the air conditioner unit is 11 feet tall.
The fresh water tank is 105 gallons and that fresh water tank is an internal reserve where you can if you don’t have access to water or garden hose spigot at your site, we can come out and we can bring water on our trucks when we deliver it and we can fill up that internal water tank. And that works really well in the winter to keep that water inside and thawed out.
The wastewater tank is 275 gallons. That’s a polymer wastewater tank, so it doesn’t get stinky like the steel wastewater tanks do. And then the weight, the empty weight of the trailers is 4,250 lbs. So that’s weight with no liquids in it. The axle. So gross vehicle combined weight rating is what is called GCWVR DC WR is 7,000 lbs. It’s a torsion axle and then yeah. So that’s — there are two individual stalls with two exterior doors. Those are the specifications of that two stall restroom trailer.
(Host Eric Dye) : What are some key features or specifications clients often inquire about when selecting restroom trailers?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, yeah, it it is. The restroom trailers are pretty….we certainly get event grade restroom trailers across the board, so all of our two stall restroom trailers have a a nice gray interior. That works really well for weddings and events. Those units can also be used for commercial applications, so I would say the the interior design and then the layout…just making sure where there are two individual rooms, the men’s side has one toilet, one urinal. So that’s an important feature. And then the women’s side, one toilet and then they both have their own individual sinks and mirrors and LED lighting.
And then, like I said earlier, the fresh water holding tank is an integral part that is is really helpful especially during the winter or when you don’t have water at your site. But those are some of the most important features that we get…asked about commonly.
(Host Eric Dye) : How about helpful plumbing, electrical and transportation specifics?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, you bet. I mean this…you wouldn’t necessarily want to know all the specifics, but when you need to know it, you you really do need to know it.
So with plumbing and tanks I I covered that with the 105 gallon fresh water tank, 275 gallon wastewater tank, the plumbing system, so it’s going to be pex plumbing their ventilated system. So they run along the floor and in the walls. And so when it’s freezing out and really cold, there’s air movement so it doesn’t freeze the tank material. It’s a polymer waste tank. It’s a polymer freshwater tank for electrical.
This is really interesting. In the summer, most of the the smaller restroom trailers like a 2 stall restroom trailer. They are a 15 amp connection so you can plug them in any home? So then you can go to an acreage or you know whatever house or whatever application you can go to and connect to a normal 110 Volt 15 amp connection in the winter time. You’re gonna have three or four connections for the 2 stall restroom trailer just because you need to run the electric forced air heaters. There’s an electric forced air heater in each of the two stalls, and then there’s also one in the mechanical room, which is on the backside of the trailer. There’s another door, and that’s where you have all of the electrical panels and water tank and you can work on the the plumbing back there as well. So in in the summer, usually it’s one to two connections of 110 Volt, 15 amp connections.
And in the winter, it’s 3 to 4. The electrical system runs to a converter for the water pump and the lights. So there’s exterior LED lights for the step lights and the overhead floodlights. Those are 12 Volt, and then there’s interior led ceiling lights and those are 12 Volt as well.
And then the water pump is 12 Volt as well. So there’s 12 Volt system on there to allow for a lower power draw so that you have more versatility for where you’re putting the trailer.
As far as the transportation and setup, these two stalls are really easy to set up. There’s two. 2 jacks on the back where you can once you get the trailer where you want it, you can lower the jacks and stabilize it for ground that’s a little bit uneven and then there’s one jack up front on the A-frame of the trailer and the steps, there’s just one little pin that you pull out and that lowers the steps. And then you just unfold the handrail and you’re you good to go with setting up.
The trailer, once you have the power and water figured out for towing it. Like I said before, it’s just under 5000 pound so you can haul it with a half ton pickup. But of course it’s always nice to have a three quarter ton or one ton pick up when hauling and then two and 516th ball and you’re gonna connect it like any other trailer with safety chains and battery disconnect and seven way electrical trailer electrical connection.
(Host Eric Dye) : Can you walk us through what goes into the setup and maintenance process of a restroom trailer?
(Guest Grant Stahla) : Well, yeah. Yeah. So it’s really nice. They make them so that it’s pretty simple.
With maintenance, you’re just gonna be making sure that your products are restocked, like the trifold paper towels and the foaming hand soap. You just wanna make sure that they’re stocked. If you’re having an event or using it at a commercial application, I would just have someone go with their every couple hours, every two hours, and make sure there’s try fold paper towels, make sure you have enough filming hand soap and toilet paper. When we at Stahla Services bring a restroom trailer, a 2 stall restroom trailer anywhere, it’s going to be stocked up with enough to last for at least six hours. So really if you go and check on it every two hours, that’s gonna be plenty. But of course it’s really nice when you’re using a restroom at a some sort of a public event, or maybe at your office if you’re needing to use a restroom trailer to have it be cleaned every so often.
So yeah, that’s some of the maintenance and the in between.
