Genesis Considers Production of X Gran Coupe and Convertible

Genesis Considers Production of X Gran Coupe and Convertible

Posted on April 25, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Genesis Considers Production of X Gran Coupe and Convertible

At the 2025 New York Auto Show, Genesis revealed that it is seriously evaluating the mass production of its X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible, signaling a bold step toward reinforcing its image as a true premium automotive brand.

Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Design Officer (CDO) and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of Hyundai Motor Group, stated during a press briefing, “The convertible is one of the most alluring vehicle types. We’re preparing it to bring delight to Genesis customers.”

Technical Feasibility Confirmed for Genesis Convertibles

The X Gran Convertible and X Gran Coupe, both unveiled at the recent 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, are built on the existing G90 platform. Donckerwolke emphasized that there are no technical obstacles to bringing these vehicles into production.

“Because these models are based on the G90 platform, we’re confident in their structural integrity and engineering feasibility,” said Donckerwolke. This is a critical factor, as convertibles require significantly higher body rigidity and structural stability than standard sedans, making them a challenging segment traditionally reserved for seasoned luxury automakers.

Market and Investment Analysis Underway

Before giving the green light, Genesis is conducting an in-depth analysis of projected sales volumes and required investments. The decision will be based on ensuring a balance between brand aspiration and commercial viability.

This move is part of Genesis’s larger strategy to expand its lineup with high-end models like convertibles and supercars, aiming to position itself alongside established luxury marques such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.

From Concept to Reality: Genesis’s Premium Push

Genesis first showcased a convertible concept in 2022, capturing attention for its elegant design and performance-driven aesthetic. The transition from concept to production is not just about expanding the product line—it’s about redefining Genesis as a design-forward, experience-rich premium brand on a global scale.

Conclusion

If approved for production, the X Gran Convertible and Coupe would mark a major milestone for Genesis, introducing models that combine emotional appeal with technical excellence. With no engineering roadblocks and a clear market strategy, Genesis is closer than ever to delivering a new class of luxury performance vehicles to its global customers.
