After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.
This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.
Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 1990, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. Take a trip down memory lane and look at our 1990 magazine covers below, and continue to celebrate our milestone anniversary by buying a copy of our special 40th anniversary edition magazine.

January – AC Cobra
In January 1990, our cover featured the ever-iconic AC Cobra, and showed its increase in value over the years. Today, we can point out the same increases in value for many cars that were brand new in 1990.

February – Ferrari 348 TB
Ferrari’s 348 boasted a longitudinally-mounted V8 engine amidships, with pop-up headlights that many enthusiasts wish would make a return to the automotive industry. It’s set against a teal background on our February 1990 cover.

March – Chevrolet Bel Air
One of the ultimate classic American cars, the Chevrolet Bel Air is shown on our March 1990 cover in a dazzling and vivid red color, complete with its abundant chrome, exaggerated styling, and, of course, fuzzy dice on the mirror.

April – Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet
The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, featured on our April 1990 cover, combined the 911’s iconic style and performance with open-top driving enjoyment and the practicality of all-wheel drive.

May – Lamborghini Diablo
In 1990, the introduction of a new Lamborghini flagship supercar with a V12 engine was the beginning of a new chapter in automotive history. Replacing the Lamborghini Countach, a favored icon, was the Lamborghini Diablo, a car we know today as a treasured retro icon, which starred on duPont REGISTRY’s May 1990 cover.

June – Mercedes-Benz 300 SL
Always a legend in the collector car realm, the gullwing-doored Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was featured on the June 1990 cover of duPont REGISTRY.

July – Chevrolet Corvette
A perennial staple on early duPont REGISTRY covers, the Chevrolet Corvette, especially in its first generation, is featured on the July 1990 cover of duPont REGISTRY.

August – Vector W8
Vector is known for its time in the ’80s and ’90s as the American supercar of its time, with incredibly low production numbers, unforgettably avant-garde looks, and its amazingly ambitious performance targets. The unique supercar landed on the August 1990 cover of duPont REGISTRY.

September – De Tomaso Pantera
The De Tomaso Pantera is one of the world’s most cherished retro sports cars, and it earned a well-deserved spot on the cover of duPont REGISTRY in September 1990 during its heyday.

October – BMW 8 Series
Like the 8 Series of today, BMW’s 8 Series was popular among buyers as a stunning personal luxury car, boasting looks that are still enviable today along with luxury, performance, and of course, its popup headlights, which is why it is featured on our October 1990 cover.

November – Ford GT40
Before the modern Ford GT, the Ford GT40 was cherished for its racing excellence, an absolute legend in the story of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In November 1990, it graced the cover of duPont REGISTRY.

December – Porsche 911
Most enthusiasts can’t get enough of the Porsche 911, and the duPont REGISTRY magazine cover is no exception. With red Fuchs-style rims on display, this example graced our December 1990 issue.
Our special 40th anniversary issue is out now! Along with everything that makes each duPont REGISTRY issue a must-read, this special commemorative issue features looks back on duPont REGISTRY’s history, like a look back on our covers throughout the decades, and a retrospective look at Ferrari’s halo car legacy.
