G-Power announces 800hp BMW M3 Touring

It would be fair to say that the first-ever M3 Touring has more than lived up to expectations. The hype ahead of the launch was almost frenzied, with so much talk of it potentially being the ultimate fast wagon… which it duly became. As much boot space as an M5 wagon, better to drive than an RS6, smarter looking than the saloon while also just as good from behind the wheel – the M3 Touring nailed the brief.

And while its 510hp ought to be more than enough for most – especially with standard xDrive – the 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine is proving itself so amenable to tuning that it almost seems rude not to. That appears to be the G-Power mantra, at least. Because once again it has strapped its own brace of turbochargers onto the S58, and created a 205mph 3 Series-shaped monster.

‘While the G3M Bi-TURBO 800 Touring shown here might feature a Voodoo Blue paint job, black magic has nothing to do with the huge performance boost’, reads the press release. It’s just a whole lot more air and fuel into an engine – and a huge exhaust to get waste gas out again. G-Power’s turbos, compared to standard, feature larger turbine and compressor wheels (with ‘optimised’ blades) in larger housings.

That means both exhaust temperature and back pressure is reduced, with boost pressure upped. Throw in special sauce software alongside a G-Power Deeptone exhaust with high-flow cats and, voila, an 800hp M3. With 664lb ft as well, for the sort of acceleration in seventh gear most cars could muster in third.

The car seen here is one of 25 ‘G3M Bi-Turbo’ models that G-Power will convert, all with the turbo upgrade, its Hurricane RR wheels and carbon for both the bonnet and engine cover. Even those that don’t go for the blue won’t want for attention, thanks to a new front grille and spoiler combo as well as the orange accents like an old GTS. Given the popularity of Kyalami Orange inside the latest G8x M3s and M4s (as seen here), you can’t blame G-Power for learning into their trademark hue.

Badges inside and out denote this M3 Touring as a G-Power special edition, in case people didn’t get the message, with floor mats the cherry on top. Or an optionally available carbon wheel with LED shift lights, perhaps. But best not get greedy with the extras, as the G3M conversion is €47,000 on its own, before installation or basically £40k. The turbos will be a big chunk of that cost, of course, because they’re a big chunk of the appeal. And with early Tourings now down to £70k, that 800hp figure is possible for less than the cost of a new CS wagon…
