Is yet another Chinese car brand coming to Australia?

Is yet another Chinese car brand coming to Australia?

Posted on March 18, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Is yet another Chinese car brand coming to Australia?

Australia is set to gain at least half a dozen new car brands this year, and one more could soon be on the horizon.

Images taken by a CarExpert reader show the Dongfeng Nammi 06 in Australia, with the Kia EV3-sized electric SUV appearing to be undergoing local testing.

Dongfeng is one of China’s many state-owned carmakers, and has multiple joint ventures with popular global manufacturers in its home market, such as Nissan and Honda.

The Nammi sub-brand was only launched in 2020, and the 06 has so far only been seen in Chinese press shots.

However, Car News China last month uncovered more information about the small electric SUV.

The Nammi 06 reportedly measures 4306mm long, 1868mm wide and 1645mm tall, making it 6mm longer, 18mm wider and 185mm taller than the Kia EV3 it also appears to draw design inspiration from, while its 2715mm wheelbase means there’s 35mm more distance between the front and rear axles.

Powering the SUV is a front-mounted electric motor, producing up to 135kW of power.

No information has surfaced about the Nammi 06’s battery specifications, however given Car News China speculated a launch price of approximately 100,000 Yuan ($21,700), it’s not expected to set any driving range records.

More details about the Nammi 06 are expected to be revealed at next month’s Shanghai motor show – making its Australian appearance all the more curious.

It’s unlikely the vehicle would be revealed in Australia prior to the Shanghai show, which runs from April 23.

Though multiple Chinese brands have already launched or are set to launch in Australia, Dongfeng isn’t one of them, having not made recent indications that a local venture is on the cards.

The company may simply be testing the vehicle here due to our often more demanding roads and temperatures. It’s worth noting both vehicles spied are left-hand drive.
