Mirrors can have many uses in our homes. On top of allowing us to see our reflection, mirrors can be used to reflect sunlight or make a room feel bigger. However, you do need to be careful as to where you place mirrors – a mirror in the wrong place could be distracting or could bring negative feng shui to the room. To avoid such mirror mishaps, this guide details exactly where (and where not) to place mirrors in your home.

Bathroom
The most practical place to hang a mirror in a bathroom is above the bathroom sink. If there is a window directly above your bathroom sink, consider propping a mirror circularly on the window sill. If it’s a small bathroom that lacks storage space, consider installing a mirrored cabinet above your bathroom sink. Mirrors can be hung elsewhere to help add depth to a small bathroom or help reflect light, however, you may want to avoid hanging a mirror opposite your toilet (because who really wants to look at their reflection while sitting on the toilet?).
Bedroom
When it comes to checking out different outfits in your bedroom, a full-length mirror can be useful. But what if you don’t have an available wall for a full-length mirror? One option could be to hang a mirror on the back of your door. Mirrored furniture such as a mirrored wardrobe could also be a solution. You may also want to consider adding a tabletop mirror on a dresser for doing makeup (you could even opt for a Hollywood mirror with lighting around it). Just make sure to consider the direction you face while you lie in bed – placing a mirror right next to the head of the bed can be a little unnerving for some people while trying to get to sleep.

Hallway
Another useful place to add a mirror is in the hallway. This should ideally be a full-size mirror so that you can check your entire outfit out and make any last-minute adjustments before you leave the house. Consider placing a mirror on one of the walls adjacent to your front door, but avoid placing a mirror opposite your front door (this is thought to bring negative energy to your home according to the rules of feng shui).
Living room
Mirrors can also make great focal points in a living room. Hanging a mirror opposite a window can help to brighten up the room, while a mirror above a fireplace can add balance. Just avoid hanging a mirror too close to the TV as it could be distracting while trying to watch movies and TV shows.
Dining room
Another place to hang a mirror could be in a dining room. This could be hung at eye level while sitting or at eye level while standing (this allows you and guests to check their appearance before sitting down for dinner). Mirrors can even be placed on the ceiling above a table, allowing you to look up and see the whole table spread.
