Michelin Primacy 5 in Malaysia – claimed longer wear mileage, better wet braking, lower rolling resistance

Michelin has launched the Primacy 5 tyre for the Malaysian market, succeeding the Primacy 4 and in comparison with rival premium brands, brings up to 24% more wear mileage, 8% shorter braking distance when new and 13% shorter braking distance when worn to a 2 mm tread depth, and rolling resistance has improved by up to 13%.

Vehicle occupant comfort is aided with the Primacy 5 with its new tread pattern featuring the tyre manufacturer’s Silent Rib Gen-3 technology which aims to reduce vibrations and noise for a smoother, quieter and more comfortable ride, according to Michelin.

The Michelin Primacy 5 is claimed to have an environmental footprint that has been decreased by 6% compared to the Primacy 4, while its longevity has been increased by 18%, according to the company.

Its wear mileage is 24% longer than that of rival premium brands, says Michelin, through the use of a 10% increase in void ratio compared to the Primacy 4, while optimised lateral groove edges aid in longer-lasting wet-weather performance.

This is helped by MaxTouch technology that maximises the tread blocks’ contact with the road surface, evenly distributing acceleration, braking and cornering forces to deliver longer tread life without compromising safety, says Michelin.

The improved wet road performance for a longer duration of use – shorter braking distances of up to 8% when new, and up to 13% when worn compared to other premium brands – is by the use of functional elastomers with Michelin EverGrip and Michelin EverTread technologies that optimise water evacuation.

In terms of compatibility with electric vehicles, the Michelin Primacy 5 offers a 13% reduction in rolling resistance to improve energy consumption, and thus aiding in extending the electric vehicle’s battery range, according to the tyre manufacturer.

In Malaysia, the Michelin Primacy 5 is on sale at all authorised Michelin tyre dealers, and is available in 25 sizes in diameters ranging from 16 to 19 inches, priced from RM477 to RM1,026. Sizes of 18-inch diameter and larger feature the brand’s latest sidewall aesthetic that brings a full-ring velvet line.
