The Milan Red supercar is made by Milan Automotive. It isn’t an Italian company, which would be the educated guess, but a new Austrian manufacturer. Austria is better known for skiing and ‘The Sound of Music’ than supercars, but this new firm aims to change that with this rather stunning supercar.
The Milan Red has 1,307 horsepower and uses a 6.2-litre quad-turbocharged V-8 engine, which powers a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The first performance statistics suggest the Austrian supercarcan sprint from 0-62 mph/100kmh in 2.47 seconds and manage a top speed of 249 mph/400kmh.
The car is named after the Red Kite, which is a bird of prey, and keeping in tune with the ‘bird’ theme, the model’s three driving modes are Glide, Hunt and Attack. There is a mighty appeal in those names and it will be all too easy for a driver to imagine they are gliding the thermals before going into Hunt mode, followed by Attack.
The Milan Red supercar is predominantly made of carbon fibre and it will be the first street-legal production car to sport a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) double-wishbone suspension. Its lightness puts it in the same sector as the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigseg.
Who is Milan Automotive?
It seems that the company was formed by a group of friends interested in building prototypes. They started working under the name ‘Milan’ in 2012 and registered as a corporation in 2017. So, it really is a very new company. The company’s goal is to build a car without a flashy design and instead focus on the relationship between the driver and car. As the company’s CEO, Markus Fox, told Autocar: “Nowadays, you can drive an artistic car, a high-tech monster, a throne on four wheels — or a car that only serves one purpose: stealing the show. This is where we come into play.”
So, far nobody knows what the inside of the Milan red looks like, but according to the motoring press, “it is planning to display a visualisation of the driver’s heartbeat inside the cabin.” That alone tells us that this is one exciting car.
