After a rather barren 2024 in new models, Mercedes will have the biggest new model campaign in its history in 2025-2026, including 12 new models, 8 facelifts, and several concepts.
Mercedes saw a dramatic fall of the profit margin in 2024, from 12.6% to 8.1%, even though total sales only fell by 3%. In contrast, sales of electric models fell 23.1% to just 185,059 units, because of a wrong electric strategy.
However, Mercedes has revised its strategy and will restart with full power in the next two years by launching a new generation of electric models as well as stepping up the development of its existing models with ICE engines. But let’s go into details.
2025 new models
The first absolute news will be the all-new Mercedes CLA in April 2025. Mercedes has already unveiled official photos of the camouflaged car and given details about the electric and mild hybrid propulsion systems. It will debut first as an electric version on the new MMA multi-propulsion platform with 800V technology and two types of batteries: the LFP 58 kWh and the NMC 85 kWh. The new Mercedes CLA will come in versions with a 272 PS rear axle engine or two engines, with a second 109 PS engine driving the front axle.
A second-generation 48V mild hybrid will debut in October 2025 in the new Mercedes CLA with conventional engines, featuring a 27 PS electric motor integrated between the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the combustion engine. The electric motor is mated to a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder M252 thermal engine from the new FAME family, which will have three power levels: 136 PS, 163 PS, and 190 PS. The Mercedes CLA will be the first model to ditch the EQ particulate. Both electric and mild hybrid models will be called CLA.
The second absolute newcomer is the Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake which will debut first in electric and then in a mild hybrid version at the end of 2025.
The compact range will be completed by the new-generation GLB which will be unveiled at the end of 2025 but will go on sale from 2026. This will be the third model on the MMA platform and will also be available in electric and 48V mild hybrid versions, all of which will carry the GLB name. Thus, the EQB name will disappear as EQA.
Up a class, Mercedes will unveil the new Mercedes GLC EV at the Munich Motor Show in Autumn 2025, which is the successor to the EQC. Built on the new MB.EA Medium platform, the GLC EV will come in single- and twin-engine versions and will compete with the Audi Q6 e-tron, Porsche Macan, and the new BMW Neue Klasse SUV.
Also this year, Mercedes will unveil a concept in the summer that foreshadows the future Mercedes-AMG SUV launching in 2026. Mercedes has already unveiled an official photo of the masked car. Mercedes will build two models on the new electric dedicated AMG.EA platform: the aforementioned SUV and a four-door coupe that will replace the current Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe. Both will utilize the new YASA axial-flow motors and possibly the new solid-state batteries if they are ready in time for series production. Mercedes is already testing them on a Mercedes EQS 450.
2026 new models
The big news of 2026 will be the electric Mercedes C-Class, which will appear shortly before the facelift of the current-generation W206 Mercedes C-Class with conventional engines. It is planned for the second half of 2026. Thus, the new C-Class EV will compete with the new BMW i3 Neue Klasse.
The top version of the C-Class EV will be presented at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2026. The future AMG C 63 EV will have two electric motors and over 600 PS.
It will then be followed by the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door electric coupe that succeeds the current-generation AMG GT 4-door with conventional and PHEV engines, built on the same AMG.EA platform as the SUV.
The Mercedes S-Class will also receive a comprehensive facelift in 2026 that will stand out with a larger, illuminated grille and new MB:OS software. From unofficial sources it seems that the S-Class will take over the Hyperscreen from the EQS and the MB:OS will have improved content.
The Mercedes EQS will undergo a facelift and drop the EQS name, which will be called the electric S-Class. It won’t be built on the MB.EA Large platform that Mercedes has ditched but on the current upgraded EVA platform with 800V technology.
A facelift for the EQS SUV, EQE SUV, and EQE will follow in 2026. The Mercedes EQE name will disappear and the model will be called Mercedes E-Class EV. It is unknown what will happen after 2026 with the EQE and EQE SUV models. Mercedes has stopped the development of the MB.EA’s large platform and therefore, the upcoming electric GLE and electric E-Class could be built either on an elongated version of the MB.EA medium platform or on the conventional MRA II platform, as is the case with the BMW i7/7 Series.
Mercedes will also operate a facelift on the GLE and GLS large and luxury SUVs built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The end of 2026 will also see the unveiling of the new baby G-Class that Mercedes has already confirmed. Here again, there’s the dilemma of which platform will be used: the MMA platform from the CLA, GLB, or one derived from the G-Class that offers similar off-road capabilities.
