Check Out This Totally Epic 1969 Impala SS That Liggett Found on Bring A Trailer. It’s Perfect…Almost!
(Words by Scott Liggett) We at BangShift are quite well known our fondness of 1960’s GM B bodies. Their designers hit their stride coming up with all kinds of beautiful and powerful big boat vehicles. It could be argued your author’s weakness for Impalas defines his persona after owning eight of them. When we spied this ’69 Impala SS on Bring A Trailer this morning, we nearly needed medical attention.
1969 marked the last year for the Impala SS, until it was revived again in 1994. In ’69, Chevrolet dropped all the engine options down to just two 427’s. These included the L36 390 HP version and the very rare L72 425 HP monster. With the sales of the midsize muscle cars hitting their stride, Chevrolet could only 2450 of these Impala SS’s in 1969. They sure didn’t go out in a wheezing whimper.
This particular ’69 that is currently up for auction on Bring A Trailer may or may not be an actual Super Sport, and frankly, we don’t care. It has everything that the Super Sports accoutrements that an SS would have anyways. But, this one has been updated, souped up and most definitely improved over a stock one.
Under the hood is a supercharged LT4 6.2 ltr with way more horsepower than was available in 1969. It’s backed by a T-56 Magnum 6 speed with a 12 bolt differential and 3.73 gears. The suspension looks pretty stock with the addition of four wheel disc brakes. The beautiful bucket seat interior hasn’t been modified, except a few extra gauges. We even love the gorgeous dark Dusk Blue paint with the black steelies and dog dish hubcaps.
We feel this Impala is perfect. Well, almost. The inner headlamps being removed from the blacked out grille doesn’t work for us, especially since they aren’t really feeding cold air to the engine.
