It always stings when a Corvette catches your eye, only to be sold a few days after you write about it! After a ho-hum January, the second month of 2025 has – figuratively – brought the heat. Your author has been smitten with a Corvette more than once in February, but after sharing with the group as I’m obligated to do, both apples of my eye were snatched up with surprising quickness! The great thing about America’s Favorite Sports Car, though, is that right when you lose out on a seemingly irreplaceable example, another one comes along to console you!
Over the long weekend, there’s only been one ‘Vette on my mind, and it might go down as the MVP of a hotly-contested 28 days. Through Thursday, a Bring a Trailer auction is offering the chance to become owner number two of an absolutely stunning 2012 Corvette Z06. It is presented in one of, if not the, best colors of the vaunted C6 generation: Inferno Orange Metallic (one of just 185 ever sprayed the almost glowing hue!), and it’s only traveled 16,000 miles in its 13 years of service.

On top of that already tantalizing combination, it also features a who’s who of ultra-desirable options and tasteful modifications. Chief among these is the transformative Z07 performance package, complete with pizza pan-sized Ferrari Enzo-spec ceramic brakes, light-weight Cup Wheels, Pilot Sport Cup rubber, MagRide, upgraded aero, carbon fiber roof, and the required CFZ carbon package that brings over the front splitter and side skirts from the supercharged ZR1. “Z07” is one of our favorite topics around here, and for good reason. It was an exceedingly rare RPO only available from 2011-13. It carried the steep original ask of $9,495 (plus $3,995 for CFZ), turning the Z into a $100k proposition, and as such, just 740 were ever made – 540 in 2011 followed by just 117 and 83 in ’12 and ’13, respectively.
While some questioned spending ZR1 money on a Z06, it’s safe to say now that those 740 customers were “in the know.” Even though they featured zero under-hood enhancements to their 7.0L LS7 V8s, Z07-equipped cars shaved an incredible 20 seconds off of the base Z06’s record lap at Germany’s infamous Nürburgring. More impressively, they were actually four seconds swifter on the ‘Ring than 2009 ZR1s, despite a 133 HP disadvantage.

Be aware the BaT listing does have a couple inaccuracies. VIN 7957 doesn’t, in fact, feature the separate carbon fiber hood option or the Cashmere interior, but instead, the stock hood and Ebony 3LZ thrones, but the rest of the description looks in order. One of our other gripes with the world’s most famous automotive auction site is the way it’s all written in the style of “hearsay” without mention of specific output numbers and similar helpful information. This is presumably to protect the third-party firm from liability if a seller is either lying or doesn’t know what they are talking about. But still, it would be nice to know how much extra grunt this specific Z07 is working with after the original owner dropped considerable coin porting the cylinder heads, adding a COMP Cams LS7R cam, FAST LSXR intake manifold, 102mm throttle body, Vararam air intake, and cat-back B&B exhaust to go with an MGW shifter and a McLeod RST clutch, but we’ll have to leave our explanation at “extra stout,” or “505++ HP.”
As of President’s Day afternoon, eight bids have pushed the price to $54,000 with exactly 3 days to go, all we can say is they don’t get much better than this, but we can’t wait to see what sparks our interest next when this joins the above C7 Z07 and ZR1 PDE with a “sold” sticker on its mirror!
