In collaboration with Michelin, Porsche has introduced a new tire specifically designed for the 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS, aimed at enhancing performance in wet and cooler conditions. This initiative addresses the needs of performance-oriented customers who wish to extend their track usage during spring and fall. The Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 is road-legal and is part of Porsche’s ongoing commitment to develop tires that are tailored to the unique demands of their vehicles.

The Pilot Sport S 5 features the “N” marking, indicating its development for Porsche models. It is one of four Michelin tire specifications available for the 911 GT3 RS, which also includes a winter tire option. This new tire is engineered to provide superior performance in wet conditions, contrasting with the capabilities of the ultra-high-performance Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, which is optimized for dry, warmer environments.

Development of the Pilot Sport S 5 began in 2022, involving rigorous testing at the Michelin Development Center in France. The design incorporates a tread pattern with four central grooves, measuring 7.4 millimeters in depth, which enhances water evacuation capabilities. The rubber compound includes a high silica content to improve grip on wet surfaces and facilitate quicker attainment of optimal operating temperatures. The tire is most effective at ambient temperatures ranging from approximately 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Testing has shown that the Pilot Sport S 5 offers improved grip and control during wet conditions, outperforming previous tire options for the 911 GT3 RS. In controlled tests, lap times on a wet track were significantly reduced when using the new tire compared to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 N0.

Additionally, the tire has been evaluated for performance in dry conditions, ensuring it meets the requirements of both track day enthusiasts and everyday drivers. The tire’s construction promotes durability and resistance to wear, contributing to its longevity.

The Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 N0 will be available for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS in specific sizes, with the front setup measuring 275/35 ZR 20 and the rear setup is 335/30 ZR 21. It will be sold exclusively through U.S. Porsche Centers, with further details on availability and pricing to be announced in the future.
