High level info: It’s a 2000 Passat with a 1.8T 4 cyl turbo motor, FWD and a 5 speed manual. The car just crossed 240k miles but as I mentioned I just paid for a major service that should mean it’s good to go for another 80k miles. Imo this would make a great winter beater or first car for a kid. It has a clean title in my name.
Pros: Big recent services including timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets, shocks/struts, fuel filter + line, diverter valve, cabin air filter, alignment at all 4 corners, oil change. The car runs, drives, and brakes well.
Mods: The diverter valve replacement is an upgraded 034 billet diverter instead of the OEM plastic unit. The car currently sits on genuine BBS CH012 (18×8.5 et35) wrapped in Michelin Primacy All Seasons. As mentioned I recently replaced the blown shocks/struts with Koni Str.T, and it’s on lowering springs all around (I believe eibach prokit). Throughout his ownership, the original owner did a few “period” mods including the roof box, side mirrors with working signals, full b5.5 interior swap with beetle headrests (yes the car has working heated seats), as well as a radio upgrade to factory option fancier unit with a code.
Cons: There are two big rust spots on the car. The previous owner tried to do a rear badge delete on the trunk and the bondo/paint fell out so it turned into a rust spot. The trunk also doesn’t lock so it just needs to be replaced at some point. There is also a rust spot on the driver door where somebody dented it in a parking lot. Again, another attempted cheap bondo fix that fell out. The underside is actually fairly clean, jack points are intact and there is no major corrosion, just surface rust as expected from an east coast car. There is also clear coat peel. I was going to try to repair all of this in the spring when it gets warmer. The car was recently inspected and passed but was noted for needing control arms soon (also will be done in the spring if the car isn’t sold/traded). The interior is definitely in need of a little love, it does feel like a car that has done 240k miles. There are various squeaks/rattles and is in need of a deep clean because the prior owner had a dog.
I apologize for the wall of text but I always aim to be super thorough because I don’t want to waste anyone’s time! If you’ve made it this far maybe you’re interested in a trade!
What am I looking for: Realistically I doubt I will get a T5 + manual + wagon as a trade, but it would be nice if it was at least 2 of those things. I definitely do NOT want an automatic n/a trade, sorry! I’m ok with n/a if it’s manual and I’m ok with automatic if it’s a T5 because at least it will be worth it to manual swap at some point. I’m open to an 850, V70 or S70.
I will post more pictures when I get home
