Geely has officially revealed the Galaxy L6 EM-i plug-in hybrid sedan, and propulsion for the Galaxy L6 EM-i is from the NordThor (Leishen) modular hybrid powertrain family, from which comes the BHE15 Plus that powers the Galaxy L7.
The exterior of the L6 EM-i plug-in hybrid appears largely unchanged from that of the 2024 L6 presently on sale in China, save for the flush-mounted door handles which are replaced by conventional units on the L6 EM-i. Exterior dimensions are expected to have remained the same at 4,782 mm long, 1,875 mm wide and 1,489 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,752 mm, according to Car News China.
According to information released by the Chinese ministry of industry and information technology, the L6 EM-i gets the NordThor 2.0 powertrain that packs the BHE15-BFN 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that outputs 82 kW, or 111 PS and 136 Nm of torque.
This is paired with an electric motor producing 107 kW (145 PS) and 338 Nm, drawing from lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries of capacities between 8.5 kWh and 19.09 kWh, offering purely electric range of 48 km and 115 km, respectively.
While the exterior of the L6 EM-i has few changes relative to the L6, its interior has been rather more revised, with an infotainment screen that is now landscape-oriented from the portrait orientation of the previous car.
Here, the centre console now offers wireless device charging and a rotary control dial in place of the covered compartment, as well as dual cupholders; save for the screen orientation, this layout now more closely resembles that of the Galaxy L7 SUV. The multi-function steering wheel has also been mildly redesigned for a two-spoke layout.
The L6 EM-i is one of five new energy models to debut from Geely this year, and among them is the Galaxy Starship 7, which is essentially the Galaxy E5/Proton eMas 7 with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Proton has already trademarked the eMas 7 PHEV name, so the path could be paved for a petrol-electric twin to the national brand’s EV.
