2025 MG 4 Excite 51 price increases, deals on other variants removed

MG has increased the price of its MG 4 Excite 51 electric hatch and removed bonuses from other variants – but the most affordable version remains cheaper than a Toyota Corolla hybrid.

The national drive-away price for the 2025 MG 4 Excite 51 has increased for the New Year – while deals on other variants of the electric hatchback have been removed.

MG has confirmed the MG 4 Excite 51 is offered at $34,990 drive-away in all Australian states and territories from 1 January 2025, a $2000 increase over its last price valid between 1 November 2024 and 31 December 2024.

It remains more affordable than an entry-level Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport hybrid hatch, which retails for $32,110 before on-road costs – or around $35,000 to $36,500 drive-away depending on the state or territory of registration.

From 1 January 2025, the MG 4 Excite 64 is no longer available with a nationwide drive-away offer, while $8000 factory bonuses for the Essence 64, Long Range 77 and XPower have expired.

The change sees the cost of the Excite 64 rise around $10,000 from its national $34,990 drive-away price in December 2024 to $41,990 before on-road costs – or between $43,704 and $45,900 drive-away – in January 2025.

MG Australia warned buyers its pricing offers for the MG 4 in December 2024 would “never be repeated”, with the 31 January 2025 expiry date initially stated for the $32,990 Excite 51 price later shortened to 31 December 2024.

Australia’s cheapest new electric vehicle is now the GWM Ora hatchback at $33,990 drive-away for the Standard Range and $34,990 for the Extended Range – or $32,490 and $33,490, respectively, for business customers with an ABN.

The MG 4 Excite 51 was previously offered as low as $30,990 drive-away between 20 September 2024 and 31 October 2024 – the lowest price recorded for a new electric vehicle in Australia – along with savings for other variants.

MG Australia chief commercial officer Giles Belcher told Drive the deals on the MG 4 led to demand for its electric hatchback increasing by about “five times” in the days after they were announced, with the Excite 51 seeing the “biggest lift”.

“I think what it’s done, and the feedback leads me to believe this, [is] that it’s not just people who are interested in an EV that are looking at it, it’s the broader small hatch … buyer out there,” Belcher said.

VFACTS new-car sales data reveals 6079 examples of the MG 4 were delivered in Australia from January to November 2024 – December figures are due to be released on Monday – with almost 40 per cent of these sales recorded in October and November.

It was the top-selling electric vehicle in October 2024 with 1486 deliveries, ahead of the Tesla Model Y (1042) and Tesla Model 3 (422).
