It’s been a remarkable year for the evolution of AutoHunter as well as the broader Collector Car Network. I personally sold two vehicles on the auction platform during 2024 (both at no reserve), and each car went to the perfect new home. The neat thing about the automotive community is how a shared vehicle interest can foster friendships that last a lifetime.

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1968 Cadillac DeVille Convertible. The car is being offered by a dealer in Gladstone, Oregon, and the auction will end Thursday.
You’ve heard plenty about pink Cadillacs, thanks to the famous 1984 Bruce Springsteen song. But how about a purple Cadillac? Or, put more accurately, a Cadillac in “Madeira Plum Firemist”? That’s what we have before us today, and it’s striking. The car was reportedly refinished from its original hue of Chestnut Brown at some point during its life. Features include a black convertible boot, rear fender skirts, and chrome brightwork.
The DeVille’s history in the Cadillac family is rich and important: The model served as a showcase for the utmost in full-size luxury for the brand since first being shown at Motorama in 1949. By 1965, the DeVille was already in its third generation, and it was available in hardtop, sedan, and convertible body styles. Design was penned by Bill Mitchell, the same artist responsible for the famously attractive 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
A car of the DeVille’s size and status needs adequate get-up-and-go, and with that in mind, power for this full-sized ragtop comes from a big-block 472ci V8 mated to a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. Cadillac rated the powertrain at 375 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque.
A magazine ad for the 1968 DeVille called the car, “A masterpiece from the master craftsmen,” and another said, “It speaks eloquently about you, yet barely whispers.” It goes without saying that Cadillac was extremely proud of this car car when it came out 57 years ago, and it’s a car that any Cadillac enthusiast would be equally proud to own and drive today.
