Every Ford Mustang is special to its owner in the subjective way. It’s a car that often has been modified to reflect personality and tastes. But the 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R is special in the objective sense of the word.

According to Ford Performance, the Blue Oval’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) only made 300 Cobra Rs for the 2000 model year. They were all Performance Red and instantly identifiable by their front splitter, bulging hood, and high-mounted rear wing. One of their most distinguishing characteristics was impossible to see unless the hood was up: a naturally aspirated 5.4-liter V8 that pumped out 385 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque, and roared through the Cobra R’s distinctive side pipes. SVT coupled that output with a TREMEC T-56 six-speed manual transmission and an independent rear suspension to make the Cobra R more nimble on the street and track.

Watch the video below to learn more about this limited-production Mustang and see our up-close footage of it at the Barrett-Jackson 2024 Scottsdale Fall Auction.
