The 2017 McLaren 720S marked a pivotal step in the company’s evolution from Formula 1 dominance to elite supercar production. Featuring a sleek, aerodynamically optimized design, it utilized a new carbon-fiber chassis that supported dihedral doors and advanced active suspension derived from the 650S.

At its heart was the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 M840T engine, delivering 710bhp. This enabled the car to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 212mph. In 2018, McLaren unveiled the GT3, a race-focused variant with 90% of its components altered from the road model to comply with racing standards.

By 2020, the GT3X emerged as a track-only evolution designed for high-performance enthusiasts. Starting with a bare carbon chassis, it was built entirely by McLaren’s motorsport division, the only model in the lineup to receive such treatment.

Equipped with the GT3’s aero and cooling systems, the GT3X featured an enhanced version of the M840T engine, delivering over 700bhp plus an extra 29.5bhp via a push-to-pass system. Proving its capability, it set the fastest hill climb time at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
