Here’s the sitch, but first, foreplay!
So…
I was initally looking for a S80 V8 for it’s “Yamaha” built reputation. I’ve never owned a Volvo before nor was I ever interested of owning one, but I’ve had plenty of Yamaha experience w/ their Motorcycles and c’mon… of course the LFA is my favorite supercar! On a random youtube feed, for the first time, I heard that infamous swedish ROAR and was immedietly interested. Personally, I’ve only ever owned japanese cars before and even worked on the legendary R34 GTR V-Spec, R32s, Silvia’s, STI’s, Type R’s, Miata’s, Infinit’s and Rotaries (2x Mazda RX-8’s Bridgeported and Turbo’d).
Now that i’m getting older and know my back can’t handle stiffer cars anymore, I started looking into “settling down” and began my search for a All-in-one comfortable cruiser. BMW’s, Audi’s, Lexus’s, Acura’s, Infinit’s, even Alfa Romeo’s! I wasn’t really into the newer EV’s platforms or anything hybrid, although they look really good. I was mostly hoping for something a bit more mechanical, reliable and reasonable w/ steady power, comfort and safety features all packed into a low profile design. Something discreet, unnoticeable and vague in stature… until you want it to be. In essence, I was looking for the perfect sleeper.
Since most S80 V8’s we’re all high mileage and mostly ignored shells of what they used to be, at least in my local area and the greater East Coast. I started winding down my searches and set reminders for next spring season. That’s when I fell upon that infamous video “Volvo S80 4.4 V8 vs S80 3.0 T6 (Polestar tuned) street racing”
I immedietly fell in love… ! w/ the T6’s potential. My whole focus shifted to T6’s of any reasonbly priced model. Power over weight right? So I started looking for an XC90, then a XC60 although the curb weight did bother me a bit, so I simiplified my searches down to a S60. I searched, searched, and searched, visits after visits, test drive after test drive, all to be dissapointed w/ the price… until I found, my Cinderella; A

All the poverty buttons we’re finally there!
$10,000.00 CAD guys……………. from some random dealership in a small township outside of Montreal! Apperantly sat on the lot for 11 months before I picked it up. I guess the Volvo marketing isn’t so big up north! Let me tell you, they we’re wrong and mistaken! Personally, it has it been a blast to own her since. I never thought I’d fall in love with a “dentist’s car” but I just absolutely love the low profile power, the performance potential, it’s convenience, competing w/ 335’s and +, along w/ all it’s “stupid” comfort features.
Fellas, I repeat, y’all made the right choice!
I’m in love!
And whoever owned this baby, I love you too!
- Whole front and rear end was redone, only a sway bar link on the passenger side had to be replaced.
- It was initally burning oil.. but since I addressed the issue. Oil burn has been stable ever since.
The body?… I will not discuss. She needs the regular TLC. “Buff, Wax or Replace” Either way, I finally found my “Forever ever car”! I’m serious fellas, I’m never ever ever thinking about selling her! I don’t car what anybody offers me. She’s mine for lif!
The dealership was only aware of some of these features but not the P* Tune, the Audio Upgrade nor the ABL’s. I don’t know why but either it was by god’s grace or lady luck that I found her. All other dealers and private sellers we’re asking between $15K and $18k w/ lesser features + taxes. She wasn’t even posted on classifed. In a last ditch effort, I just google “Volvo S60 for sale”! First link was this obscure wagon for a $10k steal that led me to my beautiful baby today! Love boys, Love at first sight!
Now, the downsides;

The problems;
I’ve been researching around the web but couldn’t find a specific reference. I figured y’all’d be more knowledgable on this as I am new Volvo owner/enthusiats and pray you can help. In essence, my hazards and auxiliary power outlet in the front (Trunk is okay) are no longer functional. This is after I bought the car with the radio no longer working on pickup. I remember the hazards and aux power outlets we’re working prior to delivery.
I took it back to the dealership and they took apart the head unit, I guess struggling with it, which led them to keep the car for 5 weeks. After multiple complaints, I took back the car in a rush and took it to a Volvo specialist who figured it out in less than an hour. Something with the Sirius Radio being stuck on output (luckily it wasn’t the Amplifier), so he attached a loop mod in the trunk and the audio works beautifully. I shed a tear every podcast remembering it isn’t that ****ty JBL from Walmart.
However, the hazards and aux power are still inoperable. Flashers still work fine so I figured the idiot dealership must of maybe forgot to reconnect a wire or a fuse when they re-assembled the head unit. The passenger side mirrow doesn’t fold. I’ve tested it w/ Vida and it indicates no power going to the mirror.
I’d love to restore this car to it’s original beauty.. but am struggling w/ it’s small problems!
Finally… please
Do any of y’all have knowledge of these matters?
I know it’s basic problems, it’s my last problems!, therefore I assume it’s something basic, but my forte is mostly mechanix, and basic electronix.
Thanks for reading on my journey to Volvo for life and thanks for the help in advance!
