Chinese products have come a long way when it comes to design, technology, quality, and luxury. A great example is the fully electric Maextro S800, serving as a cut-price rival to ultra-luxury models from the likes of Maybach and Rolls-Royce.

The newly formed Maextro is not your typical startup, but a joint venture between tech giant Huawei and Chinese automaker JAC. Maextro is the fourth member of the HIMA project, positioned above the Stelato (Huawei/BAIC), Luxeed (Huawei/Chery), and AITO (Huawei/Seres) joint ventures.

As the first model of the new brand, the new Maextro S800 was revealed ahead of its market launch in spring 2025. The electric sedan features a classic long hood, a bowed roofline that extends all the way to the rear end, and an impressively long wheelbase.

Features like the disc wheels look to be inspired by Rolls-Royce, the chrome-infused lower bumper intake sends Bentley vibes, and the bi-tone treatment of the exterior is reminiscent of Maybach. Still, the Maextro S800 stands out with its unique LED lighting units and door handles featuring a star-like pattern.
Yu Chengdong (also known as Richard Yu), the CEO of Huawei Technologies Consumer Business Group, proudly stated that the Maextro S800 is bigger than 99.99% of the cars on Chinese roads. The model measures 5,480 mm (215.7 inches) long, 2,000 mm (78.7 inches) wide, and 1,536 mm (60.5 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 3,370 mm (132.7 inches).
This footprint is very similar to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which served as a benchmark for the Chinese model. Still, the Maextro S800 is 65 mm (2.6 inches) shorter than a Rolls-Royce Ghost, and a full 502 mm (19.8 inches) shorter than a Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB.
The company shared a single photo of the interior revealing the “starry sky” roof, and premium materials for the upholstery. The individual seats at the back hint at a four-seater configuration and the cabin will include the latest tech from Huawei, including an AI assistance system and Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities.
The model will ride on Huawei’s Tuling Intelligent Chassis. Detailed specifications of its fully electric powertrain will be announced closer to the market launch.
The Maextro S800 is already available to pre-order in China for a deposit of ¥20,000 ($2,800). Pricing is expected to range between ¥1-1.5 million ($137,800-206,700). This will position the EV against the Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW i7.
