Damper Motor Module Left Temperature Replacement Guide | SwedeSpeed

Posted on November 14, 2024 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Damper Motor Module Left Temperature Replacement Guide | SwedeSpeed

This post shows the steps to replace the damper motor module/climate blend motor/air flap motor actuator/electrical motor/stepper motor/temperature damper servo motor/blend door that controls the left side temperature if it has gotten stuck, without removing the dashboard. This is a destructive repair and does require cutting away plastic to reach the motor and replace it.

Unfortunately, I started this under the impression that I needed to replace the left temperature DMM, but when I verified which DMM had an issue in VIDA it turned out to be the air distribution DMM which is really totally inaccessible without removing the dashboard. I tried and did do some cutting but there is no way to access that DMM unfortunately. I had compiled so much stuff however I figured I’d post this incase it helps anyone.

In my case, no heat or A/C comes out of the dashboard when it is selected on the CCM. This is a separate issue from the A/C clutch coming out of tolerance and not engaging when cooling is needed, though I have had that issue as well.

This guide was inspired by this YouTube video. Eastern Europeans seem to pretty good at figuring this sort of stuff out, but I didn’t find a guide so the work took me longer than it should have since I had to figure out the bare minimum of what I needed to remove while popping back into VIDA and different guides online. My guess is if you are fairly handy, you can probably knock this out in 2 hours. The biggest pain is babying the trim to not damage the plastic, and obviously cutting the plastic. Everything else is pretty accessible fasteners other than actually removing the DMM. The VIDA stuff can be pretty confusing as well.

Parts Required

  • DiCE Tool and VIDA
  • Needed to diagnose the issue and reset the motor after completing the swap
  • You can probably take it to a dealer and have them calibrate it, but the tool costs about ~150 plus an old laptop so probably will come out ahead if you just buy it
  • Replacement motor

Tools Required

  • Bone Tool
    • I used the back of a cheap harbor freight paintbrush I had lying around since I couldn’t find my bone tool
  • Torx T25
  • 8mm socket
  • Extension for 8mm socket
  • Agile Saw

Replacement Steps

  • Remove Lower Instrument Panel (Attachment)
  • Remove Steering Plate (Attachment)
  • Remove Combined Instrument (Attachment)
  • Remove Metal Bracket
  • Cut Plastic
  • Remove Motor and unclip connector
  • Replace motor and run VIDA LIN bus identification to ID the new new DMM and then CCM calibration to be sure…
  • Rinse and Repeat everything else!

Hopefully this helps someone!
