Robert’s OSD 2014 S60 T6 AWD Platinum | The Faux Factory R-Design | SwedeSpeed

Hello reader, after nearly two years of ownership I thought a thread would be in order for this car. I hope you find this thread enjoyable or helpful, if at all interesting.

Introductory |

It took an on and off 7 year search since these cars were new to find the right 2014 S60 T6 AWD. This was the only model year the 3.0 inline 6 was available with the facelift in the US market without going for an R-Design. Because of this, not a lot of them exist. Typically there is maybe one or two on the market at one time.

The search started because of a 2014 S60 T6 AWD Platinum Capitol Motors had in Kaiserslautern, Germany while we were over there. Due to a couple reasons, that car fell through. Sad though since it was a new car with a whopping $13,000 off MSRP.

Since then, it was a constant search which eventually ended one late night in January 2021. I was browsing AutoTrader and saw a 2014 S60 T6 AWD Premier Plus was listed at a Volvo dealer in downtown Seattle. Coincidentally in the same area as Magnuson Park.

Any observant reader will look back at Premier Plus and redirect their eyes to the title and see the discrepancy here. All explainable due to the nature of this S60 being an overseas delivery example. The dealer relied on window stickers via dealer software but since OSD cars don’t have one because of regulations of it being a used car by US law – it was a somewhat unidentifiable vehicle by their standards. It was a great experience buying from them regardless but they really did not know what they were selling. Worked for me!

This brings me onto this car and its spec. The first owner barely spared a dime while going through options. You will typically see a 2011 T6 dealer demo car with this level of options but never a 2014. I calculated a $57,000 MSRP counting destination. $16,000 in packages and options…on an S60. Just about a grand away from a S60 Polestar. R-Designs to my knowledge barely reach this level of MSRP even though it has a $3,000 advantage ahead when base. It is missing three options still though. Rear Seat Entertainment (which is completely irrelevant on an S60 for me), Connected Touch which was a failed project by Volvo that was a precursor to the SPA Sensus, and the spare tire which is redundant considering how much trunk space it robs.

Due to the Polestar Tune, Sport Chassis and Dynamic Package, this car has everything an R-Design has besides the R-D cosmetics, lack of interior or exterior customization and OE BBK. I’ll be addressing the latter shortly.

@spiked60 graciously took the time to look it over for me. It passed all the Spiked PPI tests. I was informed after the fact he was tempted but I am glad he kept true to his XC60 build. Now that, is an awesome car.

A porter for the dealer ended up becoming a new friend after posting a picture of it on a mobile app. Gave me this photo too. Which believe it or not was the only true full picture I ever got of it since the dealer never was able to take photos and spiked took mainly videos and close up photos.

Waiting for delivery day was going to be a pain…

One very chilly morning 14 days later…it arrived. Longest two weeks of my life honestly. The heated steering wheel was welcomed that day. First in order was removing the Weathertech rain shields. Never liked them. If anyone wants the front pair, I have a minty set!

Because of the borderline freezing temperatures during transport the Volvo logo sticker sadly fell apart. I replaced it after my local dealer rejected a free replacement even though it is still covered under a recall of sorts by Volvo. Also, front camera placement! So much better than prefacelift cars.

During a debacle with the VA DMV, another OSD S60 joined us along the way to cap off this post.

Summary |

This thread will be to share what I’ve done to this car along with sharing some finds that I feel really emphasize character. I will update the thread with little things here and there. The goal with every car we have is to not necessarily go for an OEM+ approach but more of an OE+ one if that makes sense. Add cool genuine parts and upgraded ones that do not have an upgrade from Volvo, such as an intercooler. An ultimate S60 of sorts and I hope you join me along this adventure and take some inspiration.
