Grant Stahla
Grant Stahla, Co-owner of Stahla Services, a nationwide provider of restroom, shower, and ADA trailer rentals again joins Enterprise Radio.

On this episode, the focus will be on the 8 Station Restroom Trailer, all the benefits and the specifics of renting this particular trailer for your needs.

Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Grant Stahla discuss the following:

(Host Eric Dye): Grant, who’s reaching for this trailer? Can you share the kinds of situations it’s built for and how you figure out if it’s got enough capacity for, say, a big event or a work crew?”

(Guest Grant Stahla):  Yeah, that’s a good question. So the 8 station restroom trailer is one of my favorite trailers. It’s so adaptable, we bring it to events all the time. Anytime there’s, you know 500, 600 or 700 people, we bring that out and it can support more of that medium sized event. And then for job sites same thing. So we’re able to bring it and support quite a few people for that. Well, sometimes if a retail store has their water main go off like Costco or Target or Walmart or Chick-fil-A, they have a water main break. Then we’ll bring an 8 stall restroom trailer to be able to support the customers and the employees. For specifics on those long term jobs, if it’s a construction site where you’re supporting workers or office, building or something. Typically you’re gonna be looking at one stall per 15 workers. So for the 8 station restroom trailer, you’d be looking at about 120 people per day that trailer could support. So then for events it’s about 1 stall per 75 guests based on a four hour event with no outcall there. So then doing the math on the 8 station that would be 600 people that it could support for a four hour event with no alcohol. If you’re gonna have alcohol there, that’s fine. You just reduce that rate down to about 50 people per stall. So then you are looking at 400 people and then you know if you have less people than that at your event, you might be looking at a 4 stall. If you have more people, maybe you’re looking at a 10 stall or maybe you’re looking at an 8 station plus a 4 stall. So that’s when it would be a good fit to upgrade or downgrade to another model.

(Host Eric Dye): What’s a memorable story of this trailer in action? Maybe a festival, a tough job site, or something unexpected?

(Guest Grant Stahla):  Absolutely. Well, when I think of eight stations, some of my core memories are are at events. So maybe at a PGA Tour festival, there’s events before or after that PGA Tour Golf tournament they have. Typically there’s gonna be multiple 8 station restaurant trailers there and there might be 20 or 30,000 people at this golf tournament where they have. events before, during and after and so we have a lot of eight stations there able to support the different groupings of people, whether that’s a vip tent or if it’s supporting the different holes on the golf course. That’s one of my favorite memories of having the eight station at anything. Just because it’s so fun. It’s a fun time of the year. It’s a fun see and there’s just people that really appreciate that eight station restroom trailer.

(Host Eric Dye): Can you break down the cost of getting this trailer? What’s renting it look like—daily, weekly, or long-term—and what about buying one outright?

(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, great question. So for the 8 station restroom trailer, the weekly pricing you’re gonna be looking at about $6900 for the weekly pricing and then for a 28 day rate, it’s about $9700.00 for 28 days. If you rent for two to five months, then you’re gonna be looking at about $7600 per month and then six months plus you’re at about $6300 per month. And then, if you’re gonna rent it for over 18 months or a year and a half, you’re looking at about $5200 per month. So that’s the rental pricing. Purchase price you’re looking at about $100,000 plus or minus to buy one of these eight station restroom trailers. So then you’re kinda looking at if you’re gonna rent it for a year and a half or two years, that’s about the same price as the purchase price. Of course, there’s other costs, like breakage and management of that trailer so we do have a lot of customers that rent from us that need it for a couple years, but that’s some of the break even amounts. Some of the additional add-ons. Do you have waste tank pump outs? So you’d be looking at anywhere from $350 to about $450 for additional waste tank pump outs. Transportation costs typically about $4.00 or $5 per loaded mile, so that’s basically one trip there and back and then set up costs, typically those are included. Additional cleaning and restocking costs as well. If you don’t have a janitorial crew on site, you might be looking at about $200 for a cleaning crew to come in and and clean the 8 stalls and the whole interior of the restroom trailer and that would be restocking as well. And then there’s also generator rental is about $400.00 for an event that’s a weekend event. If you’re looking at long term, you’re gonna want that like 20 to 30 kilowatt towable generator and then the fresh water tank fill. That might be an extra $200, $300 per fresh water tank fill. That’s an overview of all the rental and purchase costs and some of the additional add-ons.

(Host Eric Dye) : Paint us a picture of this trailer’s design. What do you see walking up to it, and what’s the experience like stepping inside?

(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, you bet. Happy to talk about that. So ask the name implies there’s eight stations, so there’s gonna be two individual rooms. There’s a men’s side and a women’s side. On the men’s side, there’d be two sinks, and then typically 2 urinals and two stalls, and then the women’s side is gonna be two sinks as well and then just 4 stalls so it ends up being 8 stations which is why they called 8 station restroom trailer. It’s about 8 foot by 20 foot for 8 foot wide by 20 foot long. The length with tongue with the trailer tongue is 25 feet the width with the steps down is about 13 feet wide. The height with just the trailer is 10 1/2 feet and then with the air conditioning unit included it’s about 12 feet tall. There’s an internal freshwater tank in most of these trailers it’s about 200 gallons for the internal fresh water tank and the wastewater tank is about 750 gallons. The empty weight of the trailer with no liquids in it is about 8600 lbs. And you’re gonna get 2 7000 axles on this trailer. So the gross vehicle weight rating’s 14,000 lbs, but a lot of them are degraded to just under 10,000 so that you don’t have to have a CDL when hauling up. So that’s a quick overview of some of the specs. I can go into the interior finish, a lot of times it’s gonna be an event finish. Just your white Wayne’s coating or Gray Wayne’s coating and white and gray interiors, pretty typical finish. The cabinetry is waterproof. Just industrial cabinetry with corion countertop is pretty standard. HVAC, a lot of times there’s two. There’s two air conditioner units, and sometimes they have, it’s an upscale option to have. It plumbed through the whole trailer, otherwise you just have the bottom of the HVAC unit directly into the stall, and then the lighting is 12 Volt, 12 Volt lighting, LED lighting, which is really nice and bright. That’s an overview of the design and specifications with exterior and interior specs.

(Host Eric Dye) : What does it take to keep this trailer running smoothly? Can you walk us through its water, power, and transport requirements?

(Guest Grant Stahla) : You bet. Yeah. So for water? I had mentioned this before I spoke a little bit too soon. The fresh water tanks, 200 gallons wastewater tanks, 750 gallons. The plumbing, so you’re gonna have the mechanical room on the backside, or you could say driver’s side of the trailer. There’s a mechanical room that has the internal water tank and the plumbing which is where you can work on a lot of it. And a lot of times there’s gonna be 2 12 Volt water pumps in there for the freshwater tank, the electrical 110 Volt, 15 AMP connection. So usually in the summer you’re gonna have two connections to power the two A/C units, plus all the 12 Volt, and then in the winter you’re gonna have four connections to power the electric wall heaters or floor heaters. So with generators for what you need for like an event. For a generator of 7000 Watt would be able to power the trailer for a weekend event for one or two days. But if you have a long term construction site or retail facility or disaster relief area, you’re going to want that 20 to 30 kilowatt towable generator since it’s running 24/7. Transport and setup like I mentioned before, a lot of times they’re degraded to just under 10,000 pounds but they have two 7000 pound axles. They’re two and five sixteenths connection ball connection for towing. And then they have the safety chains and seven way connection and breakaway connection, breakaway battery connection. Setting up the trailers, there’s four jacks on each corner, and then there’s one jack on the end of the the trailer tongue so you can level it and then to pull the to pull the steps out, they’re getting easier and easier with the manufacturing manufacturers continually improving the steps. So it usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes to set one up, barring any complicated electrical or water connections. So that’s a lot of the details about setting it up and then a quick overview about who makes these trailers. There’s a lot of manufacturers, but the main ones are Satellite, Jag, Ling, Ultra Lav, Black Tie and American Engineering. That’s very technical details and an overview of the 8 station restroom trailer with the plumbing, electrical and the transport.

(Host Eric Dye) : Grant, if listeners need to remember just one thing about this trailer, what should it be?

(Guest Grant Stahla) : Yeah, anytime you have about 600 people at an event, think 8 station restroom trailer. It’s a solid trailer and definitely would recommend. It fits into a lot of spaces with it just being 20 feet long for the box of the trailer. So it really is a lot of bang for your buck with size.
