The Nissan X-Trail has received many of the changes already available in its Rogue twin, including an off-road-themed Rock Creek variant possible for Australia.
A mid-life upgrade for the current-generation Nissan X-Trail family SUV has debuted, with similar changes to those applied to its Rogue twin in the US almost two years ago.
Revealed in Japan, the 2026 Nissan X-Trail follows the Rogue with the addition of a Google-based infotainment system, an off-road-themed Rock Creek variant, and design tweaks for its grille and front bumper.
The X-Trail Rock Creek e-Power hybrid, based on the non-hybrid Rogue Rock Creek revealed in the US 12 months ago, brings a three-slot grill, a unique front bumper with red accents and black roof rails, but no off-road enhancements.

“We have no updates regarding [the] X-Trail facelift or Rock Creek at this time,” a Nissan Australia spokesperson told Drive.
There are also different 19-inch alloy wheels, a red outline for its Nissan logo – like the Navara Pro-4X ute – and gloss-black X-Trail and Rock Creek emblems.
The Rock Creek’s cabin features water-repellent seating, red accents, and a red outline for the Nissan logo on its steering wheel.

It will be offered in Canyon Beige with a black roof – exclusive to the Rock Creek – along with Prism White, Diamond Black, Cardinal Red, Dark Metal Grey and Stealth Grey.
In Japan, the X-Trail Rock Creek has replaced the Extremer X variant, which is similar to the five- or seven-seat N-Trek currently offered in Australia.
Nissan has also added an X-Trail Nismo e-Power hybrid variant – detailed here – but a local spokesperson confirmed it is “destined for the Japanese domestic market only”.
Other design changes in Japan for the wider X-Trail line-up include LED front and rear indicators, always-on daytime running lights, and a new 19-inch alloy wheel design for certain variants.

Inside, the upper dashboard panel is now black instead of brown, flagship grades feature dark brown Nappa leather upholstery rather than tan, there is a larger centre console storage box, and its USB-A charge ports have been fully replaced by USB-C connections.
The 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, shared with its Mitsubishi Outlander twin-under-the-skin, now features Google built-in, allowing drivers to log into their Google account and enabling access to Maps, Assistant and the Play Store.
Nissan’s connected services, currently limited to the Qashqai in Australia, have been upgraded in the Japanese-market X-Trail, including being able to remotely operate the climate control and lock the doors from the smartphone application.
Additionally, the X-Trail includes a three-dimensional surround-view camera, and an invisible bonnet view, for its 360-degree camera system.

Its front camera view will now automatically turn on when the vehicle arrives at a registered location, “allowing drivers to check for safety ahead and to the left and right without having to press any buttons at intersections near their home or other locations they regularly visit”.
A new Autech Sports Spec e-Power hybrid will be offered in Japan, with performance dampers, Michelin Primacy 4 tyres, retuned suspension and power steering characteristics, and “special tuning” of its acceleration and e-4orce all-wheel-drive system.
Nissan recently cut X-Trail prices in Australia by up to $3000 amid rising competition in the family SUV segment, and to reverse incremental price rises applied since the current model’s 2022 launch.
