MG’s next electric SUV – the mid-size S6 – has been revealed in leaked design patents before expected Australian launch by the end of the year.
The second medium-to-large-sized electric SUV set to be offered by MG in Australia has leaked ahead of its official reveal in the coming months.
Design patents have revealed the brand’s upcoming mid-size electric SUV – the 2026 MG S6 EV – will wear a similar look to the recently-launched MG S5 EV small SUV, which it is expected to be related to.
While its name has not been officially confirmed, MG’s parent company SAIC Motor filed to trademark ‘MGS6 EV’ in Australia earlier this month, joining the ‘MGS5 EV’ trademark it registered in December.

The new model – a successor to the current, left-hand-drive-only MG Marvel R available in Europe – will be sold in Australian showrooms alongside the larger MG IM6 luxury electric SUV.
However, unlike the current Marvel R and the incoming IM6, the S6 has been developed from the ground up as an MG vehicle rather than being a rebadged model from one of MG’s sister brands, as the Marvel R was a reworked Roewe vehicle.
IM Motors is a luxury brand from SAIC in conjunction with Chinese firms – including tech giant Alibaba – but it will be marketed in Australia as ‘IM Presented by MG Motor’ and sold in MG showrooms alongside the $21,000 MG 3 hatch, $60,000 MG 4 XPower, and $100,000 Cyberster.

The upcoming MG S6 is a separate vehicle from the MG IM6, with the former model sharing its dedicated Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) electric-car architecture with the MG 4 hatch, MG S5, and Cyberster convertible.
Australian pricing of the MG S6 EV is likely to align with its key rivals – the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Kia EV5 and Volkswagen ID.4 – which start from between $55,000 and $60,000 before on-road costs.
Visible design elements include split LED headlights and LED tail-lights with a full-width rear light bar, while spy photos taken in Sydney last September showed it will offer 20-inch alloy wheels.

While the MG S6 will target mainstream electric models, the MG IM6 – and its IM5 sedan sibling – are circa-five-metre-long vehicles likely to be priced closer to $100,000.
Official details on the 2026 MG S6 EV will be confirmed when it debuts in the coming months, with Australian showroom arrivals due by the end of the year, pending any delays.
Other new MG models due in Australia by the end of 2025 include the QS seven-seat SUV, the LDV Terron 9-based U9 ute, and the MG 7 sedan, along with hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of its HS mid-size SUV.
