The new Lexus ES is described as a “global flagship”, which may (or may not) point to a possible discontinuation of the larger LS. From the teaser, the new generation appears to have a more aerodynamic roofline, adopting a fastback silhouette.

At the front, the ES features a split LED headlight arrangement and a new interpretation of the spindle grille. We can also see the full-width taillights, the pronounced shoulders and the fake vents at the back. Finally, the large-diameter alloy wheels with a multi-spoke design help improve its looks.
Interestingly, the new ES appears to have been significantly evolved compared to the model teased in 2021, distancing itself from its aging predecessor. Note that the outgoing Lexus ES has been around since 2018, with a facelift in 2021 and a second update in late 2024 for the Chinese market.
Lexus claims that the new ES “refines advanced electrification technologies and pursues further evolution of its the hallmark quietness and ride comfort”. The automaker didn’t get into specifics, but earlier trademarks hint at the possibility of hybrid and fully electric powertrain options.
At the moment, it is not clear if the ES will ride on new underpinnings, or an evolved version of the existing TNGA-K architecture which is shared with the Toyota Camry.
Besides China, which is probably the biggest market for sedans, Lexus has officially confirmed that the new ES will also be sold in Europe. At the moment, there is no word on US availability.

What About The Lexus LS?
The fact that Lexus calls the ES its new “global flagship” puts a big question mark in the future of the LS. The big luxury sedan was Lexus’ first production model, having been a part of the lineup across five generations since 1989.

The current LS was introduced in 2017 and received a facelift in 2020, meaning it nears the end of its lifecycle. However, without a successor in the horizon, we can’t help but wonder if Lexus is ready to abandon the segment, after failing to steal customers from the rival BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class, and Audi A8.

The Lexus LS was recently discontinued from the UK market due to lackluster sales, although it remains available in Japan, China, and select European markets. We have asked Lexus for a statement on the LS and will update this story when they get back to us.
