2026 GMC Hummer EV Gets (Gulp) Quicker

“The problem with the GMC Hummer EV is that it’s just not capable enough.”

“Sure, it weighs about as much as three midsize cars and leaps from zero to 60 mph in three seconds (faster than a Porsche 911 Carrera). But can’t America do better?”

This, apparently, is a conversation that happened somewhere in a General Motors facility. How do we know? Because the 2026 version of GMC’s flagship electric vehicle (EV) will get from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds.

GMC’s giant EV, available as a pickup and an SUV, is getting a mild update for the 2026 model year. “Mild,” in this case, means less than a full redesign. The 2026 Hummer will be plenty spicy.

Carbon Fiber Edition

Changes include a new limited-run Carbon Fiber Edition. GMC doesn’t say how many it plans to build. With an optional 24-module battery pack and WTF mode engaged (Watts to Freedom; what’d you think it meant?) that one will do the 2.8-second run.

The company will sell both pickup and SUV Carbon Fiber Editions, but only promises that speed figure from the pickup.

Though it’s called the Carbon Fiber Edition, GMC hasn’t made extensive use of the exotic lightweight material. The company says carbon fiber is found only in the mirror caps and skid plate.

It rides on unique 22-inch wheels and features black badges and, in pickups, a black tonneau cover.

King Crab Mode

Other changes include a new King Crab version of the Hummer’s famed Crab Walk mode. Crab Walk mode turns the rear wheels with the front at low speeds, enabling new maneuvers to get around trail obstacles (or parallel park with flair).

“When King Crab mode is activated, the rear wheels turn significantly faster than the front wheels. That results in more maneuverability when navigating tight spaces off-road, moving around obstacles or rock crawling,” the company explains.

It will be standard on 2X and 3X trims. GMC will also push it out to all 2022-2025 Hummers as an over-the-air update later this year.

Power Your House

The 2026 Hummer gains bi-directional charging capability, letting owners power other vehicles or even a properly equipped house.

A new enhanced version of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system “includes Hands on Lane Change Assist (HOLCA), which allows for seamless transition between non-Super Cruise mapped and Super Cruise-mapped roads. In addition, Super Cruise will now offer a Lane Change for Route feature to automatically change lanes on Super Cruise-mapped roads if the vehicle’s built-in map is being used.”

We’d love to tell you what vehicles to compare the Hummer to if you’re shopping. But we’ve been trying to come up with one for years. There was already nothing quite like it.

GMC says the updated Hummers will reach dealers “later this year. Pricing and GM-estimated range will be announced closer to launch.”
