2026 Geely Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV pre-orders open, but price still unknown

Chinese brand Geely has opened pre-orders for its second modern-era vehicle in Australia, a plug-in hybrid SUV – but prices are yet to be announced.

Pre-orders for the 2025 Geely Starray EM-i mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV have opened in Australia, ahead of its showroom arrival by the end of the year.

However, Geely has not announced how much it will cost, and will not do so until next month – despite offering customers $1000 off the purchase price, applied at the time of delivery, a figure that is, for now, unspecified.

The plug-in hybrid Starray EM-i offers similar dimensions to the EX5 electric SUV already on sale, but combines 83km of electric-only driving range with a petrol engine to extend the vehicle’s endurance on longer trips.

Geely has confirmed specifications for the Starray EM-i range, which will be offered in two variants: Complete and Inspire. Despite its name, Complete is the entry-level model, while Inspire is the flagship grade.

Both are powered by a 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and electric motor driving the front wheels.

An 18.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery enables a claimed 83km of electric driving range, according to WLTP lab-test standards, with a claimed petrol-electric hybrid range of 943km.

Geely states outputs of 73kW/125Nm for the petrol engine and 160kW/262Nm for the electric motor – the latter matching the EX5 on power, but down on torque by 58Nm. No combined system output is provided.

The battery can be charged at up to 6.6kW on an AC charger, or 30kW on a compatible DC ‘fast charger’. Fuel consumption is rated at a claimed 2.4 litres per 100 kilometres, with the Starray EM-i specifying 95-octane premium unleaded.

Both variants of the Geely Starray EM-i are equipped with a 15.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, FM/DAB radio, climate control with rear vents, power-adjustable front seats with heating, LED headlights and tail lights, rear privacy glass, and heated power-folding exterior mirrors.

Wireless Android Auto is due to be added via an over-the-air software update in the first quarter of 2026, but the first vehicles to reach Australia will go on sale without this compatibility.

The Starray EM-i Complete rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Inspire steps up to 19-inch wheels.

The Inspire also adds features like a power-operated tailgate, front parking sensors (in addition to rear sensors), a 13.4-inch head-up display, wireless phone charging, and a 16-speaker Flyme premium audio system (up from six speakers in the Complete).

The Inspire also adds driver’s seat memory, front seat ventilation, a second-row fold-down armrest, 256-colour interior ambient lighting, illuminated vanity mirrors in the sun visors, an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, and an opening panoramic sunroof with blind.

Both the Complete and Inspire come equipped with forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring with door open warning, lane keep assist, lane change assist, and more.

A 360-degree camera system, seven airbags, multi-collision braking, and front and outboard rear seatbelt pretensioners are also standard.

The Starray EM-i measures 4740mm long, 1905mm wide, 1685mm tall, and rides on a 2755mm wheelbase. Compared to the EX5, the Starray EM-i has a 5mm longer wheelbase, as well as being 125mm longer overall, 15mm taller and 4mm wider.

As part of a pre-order program, Geely is offering a $1000 discount at the time of delivery for customers who place a $1000 deposit.

Pricing for the 2026 Geely Starray EM-i range is due to be announced at the car’s official launch in September.
