BMW has unveiled the 2026 BMW iX, a mid cycle refresh to the brand’s flagship EV crossover.
The 2026 BMW iX ushers in a new base trim for the iX family, the xDrive45. This model arrives featuring a 402 hp dual-motor AWD powertrain, a 312-mile range, and a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds. Next up the ladder is the xDrive60, replacing the previous xDrive50 and getting a 536 hp dual-motor AWD setup, a 340-mile range, and will run 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Finally perched at the top of the iX hierarchy is the new M70, replacing the outgoing M60 and bringing with it a whopping 650 hp (40 more than the M60), a 302-mile range, and a blistering 3.5 second 0-60 time.
The new base xDrive45 trim comes with an MSRP of $75,100, over $10k less than the previous model year’s least expensive model. The xDrive60 arrives with an $88,500 MSRP, a modest $1,250 increase over the xDrive50 model it replaces, while the M70 comes in at $111,500, the same price as the M60 model it’s replacing. All prices exclude a $1,175 destination fee. With slowing EV sales growth and more competition, the significantly lower cost of entry for the 2026 BMW iX seems like a smart move in an effort to keep it relevant on the market.
The BMW iX arrived on the EV scene with controversial styling, especially in regard to its front end, which featured a dramatically large dual kidney grille. BMW is clearly not looking to put an end to the controversy as the 2026 BMW iX features the same large grille, though now it can be ordered with illumined borders. The inner patterns on the grille have been changed depending on the model, with lower trims receiving a diagonal repeating line pattern similar to those seen on other newer BMW models like the X3. The M70 trim gets its own unique grille pattern designed to recall that of the M3 and M4.
Front and rear bumpers have been restyled on all models and feature a more restrained, squared-off design with less black plastic. The sides of the 2026 BMW iX remain largely unchanged, as does the back, which features slight tweaks to the taillights.
New wheel designs round out the list of exterior changes, with 20-inch wheels coming standard and 21 and 22-inch wheels available as options when ordering one of the M packages. The top-spec M70 model gets its own unique set of wheel choices, including 21, 22, and 23-inch options, the latter being the first of that size for any iX model.
Inside, the 2026 BMW iX gets a few subtle changes to an already extraordinary cabin. The biggest interior update is the newly available M Multi-Function seats (standard on the top-of-the-line M70, optional on lower trims). These new seats get more aggressive bolstering with additional lumbar support and active seat ventilation.
A newly optional Climate Comfort Package includes heated seats all around, a heated steering wheel, a 4-zone automatic climate control system, and even a heated armrest. The 2026 BMW iX retains the same curved display setup as the previous year’s model, also running the same Operating System 8.5 software.
All 2026 BMW iX models receive a new, higher-efficiency heat pump system that allows waste heat from the powertrain to be used to warm the passenger cabin. This same system can also warm the iX’s battery pack and drive system in an effort to increase range.
The 2026 BMW iX will go into production at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany beginning in March of this year, with deliveries slated to begin in the second quarter.
