Australians can get up close with Tesla’s updated top seller this weekend at an electric-car show in Sydney, alongside a slew of other new models.
Australians will get their first chance to see the updated 2025 Tesla Model Y electric SUV in the metal this weekend at Sydney’s Everything Electric show.
It comes after the first shipments of the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive – marketed as a Launch Series special edition – sold out in recent days ahead of customer deliveries commencing in May.
Tesla’s facelifted Model Y is due to go on display at Sydney Showground from Friday, March 7 to Sunday, March 9 alongside the Cybertruck, which is back in Sydney after touring Australia and New Zealand over the past 10 months.
Three updated Tesla Model Ys were spotted in transit in Melbourne last month in a variety of colours, but it’s not certain if these include the example planned to be shown this weekend.
Revealed in January, the updated Model Y brings refreshed exterior styling, an overhauled interior inspired by the latest Model 3 sedan, and reworked suspension promising a quieter, more supple ride.
It has moved its gear selector to a slider on the touchscreen, but a traditional indicator stalk has been retained following customer criticism of the lack of one in the Model 3.
Initially available only in a Launch Series special edition, prices start from $63,400 plus on-road costs for the Rear-Wheel Drive, and $73,400 for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive – up $7500 and $3500 respectively.
The RWD has already sold out, with some stock of the Long Range remaining, according to the Tesla website.
Other new electric cars due to make their Australian debut at Everything Electric include the Audi Q6 e-tron, Skoda Elroq, Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5, XPeng Mona M03, and Zeekr Mix and 7X.
Pricing for the Ford Ranger PHEV is also planned to be announced in the coming days.
Tickets are available on the organisers’ website, priced from $15 to $60 depending on type and duration.
