Are there two vehicles that grab more attention than the 2025 Tesla Cybertruck and the GMC Hummer EV Pickup? The answer, in case you’re wondering, is no.
These electric-powered vehicles aren’t afraid of shaking things up, that’s for certain. We wanted to see how they fare in a direct comparison. Does the wedge-tastic Tesla score a win with its minimalistic interior, max driving range, or alien spacecraft-like shape? Or does the titanically sized Hummer EV take the laurels with its off-road capability and neck-snapping acceleration?
Let’s see how the outlandish Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV Pickup compare.
2025 Tesla Cybertruck

Love it or hate it — and there doesn’t seem to be much middle ground — the Tesla Cybertruck turns heads wherever it goes. While some think it looks like a prop from a sci-fi movie, others might view it as a brave new take on the normally conservative pickup truck segment. Under the stainless steel bodywork is a dual-electric motor powertrain and available all-wheel drive (AWD).
Tesla Cybertruck Highlights
Excellent capability: The Cybertruck can tow up to 11,000 pounds, has a payload capacity of 2,500 pounds, and has up to 16 inches of ground clearance. Those are excellent numbers for a half-ton truck, let alone an electric one.
Impressive driving range (for a price): The Tesla Cybertruck’s driving range varies from 340 to 354 miles, depending on trim level.
Lockable cargo bed: A roller-shutter tonneau cover over the cargo bed keeps valuables safe and cargo secure. Tesla claims it’s strong enough for a full-grown adult to step on without any problem. We’ll take their word for it.

2025 GMC Hummer EV Pickup

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup, when properly equipped, boasts a maximum driving range of 367 miles. This is despite tipping the scales at around 9,000 pounds and stretching more than 86 inches wide — the Hummer takes up a lot of road acreage. Despite its proportions, during road tests, we’ve found it to be surprisingly easy to pilot — though parallel parking is done only by the brave.
GMC Hummer EV Pickup Highlights
Straight-line speed: The standard dual-electric motor drivetrain produces 570 horsepower and is more than capable of getting the Hummer down the road with authority. Yet the optional 1,000-hp tri-motor gives this hulking truck Corvette levels of acceleration. It will sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in only three seconds. Even the Cyberbeast doesn’t have a 4-digit horsepower rating.
Crab Walk: Fitted as standard, this 4-wheel steering system provides extra agility in all sorts of conditions. The Hummer can even drive diagonally at low speeds, a party trick that explains the crabby-sounding name.
Super Cruise: This hands-free autonomous driving aid is one of our favorites. It can be activated on more than 400,000 miles of pre-mapped roads throughout North America, and recent improvements mean it can now be activated on both highways and secondary roads. Don’t let the “Full Self-Driving” name fool you; the Tesla Cybertruck feature does not offer hands-free driving.

Similarities
Bold, brash, and entirely electric. They look different, but the over-the-top attitude shared by the Tesla Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV Pickup is very much the same.

Conclusion
Tesla came up with a new angle (actually, lots of them) when it came time to create an electric-powered pickup. The Cybertruck certainly is capable of tackling off-road driving and towing duties. Battery range is another strong suit. Yet the polarizing shape is what ultimately defines it.
The same is very true of the Hummer EV Pickup. Its sheer scale outsizes a Manhattan studio apartment, and its speed with the tri-motor drivetrain seemingly defies the laws of physics.
Pickups, even the growing number of electric variants, are routinely purchased for left-brain reasons like towing and payload capacity, power, and off-road capability. The Tesla Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV have these attributes, but choosing one over the other here will likely be influenced by right-brain reasons.
