The Porsche 911 Carrera S has become the latest variant of the popular German sports car range to be updated, entering the 992.2 generation with even more power and a longer equipment list – for an increased price.

It follows the now-hybrid 911 Carrera GTS, the GT3/GT3 Touring, base Carrera and the manual-only Carrera T in being facelifted within the past year, with the updated GT3 RS and new-generation GT2 RS expected to follow.

Orders are now open for the upgraded 911 Carrera S, which now starts from $342,700 before on-road costs as a coupe (up $25,700 on the 992.1) and $365,400 for the cabriolet (up $27,300).

Drive continues to be sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch ‘PDK’ automatic transmission.

Porsche claims the Carrera S coupe can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds.

A torque-vectoring system is standard, as is a sports exhaust system.

Exterior design changes include a tweaked front-end, a new rear light bar and bumper, as well as fresh wheel styles.

Behind the 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rears sit 408mm and 380mm brake rotors, respectively, and a carbon-ceramic braking system is available as an option.

According to Porsche, the standard dampers have been improved from the pre-update model, “providing even further improved drivability with increased precision and refined responsiveness”, allowing for sharper inputs but with greater high-speed stability.

Buyers can also order the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, lowering the 911 Carrera S by 10mm. Rear-wheel steering is also optional.

Inside, the Australian delivered 911 Carrera S gets black leather (not pictured) as standard on the seats, head restraints, dashboard and door panels. Coupes come as two-seaters but a second row is available, though it is standard-fit on the cabriolet.

Buyers can pay an undisclosed amount to add leather to the glove box lix, side panels and seat base, as well as add Crayon contrast stitching.

The matrix LED headlights, wireless smartphone charger, grey top-tinted windscreen, comfort access, Bose sound system, digital radio, lane change assist, surround view camera (with active parking support) and adaptive cruise control functions that are standard on the automatic Carrera range carry across to the S.

Additional optional features include a front axle lift system, HD matrix LEDs and the Sport Chrono package.
