2025 Nissan Murano Platinum – One Take Review

2025 Nissan Murano Platinum – One Take Review

Posted on June 3, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on 2025 Nissan Murano Platinum – One Take Review

The 2025 Nissan Murano is all new. With modernized, if a bit bland, looks, is an updated interior that reflects the new Nissan models. The powertrain has been replaced, but I am not sure if the new-ish engine is actually an improvement. Let’s check it out…

Exterior:

The front end features a tall grille with interestingly integrated daytime running lights. In the back is full-width taillight bar and hidden exhaust tips. Between them, the design lines point to a sportier curve, but there is a lot going between the C and D pillar in terms of lines, finishes, and the window. The overall design seems more focused on aligning with current automotive trends rather than being original.

Powertrain:

Gone is the torque-y V6 engine and the continuously variable transmission (CVT). In their place is a variable-compression turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with conventional nine-speed automatic transmission. The new (to the Murano) engine makes 241 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. This is down on horsepower from the V6’s 260 horsepower but up 20lb.-ft. of torque.

In daily driving, the lack of the V6 smoothness and grunt is instantly felt, especially at lower speeds. The VC four-cylinder need more pedal motivation and seems to be louder. And that’s unfortunate because it takes away from the Murano’s otherwise solid refinement.

Worse, there is not a significant improvement in fuel economy. The previous V6 Murano got 20mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway. The new ’26 model gets 21mpg in the city and 27mpg on the highway. It should be noted that the new Murano went up in weight, from 4100 pounds to as much as 4330 pounds.

Interior:

Inside, this top model Murano impressed me with its materials and quality finish. Yes, there was a mixture of colors and finishes, but it worked well together. The Platinum trim has quilted leather seats that are both heated and ventilated, and neat mood lighting is placed throughout. Overall, the interior is quite nice, very Infiniti-like.

There are two 12.3-inch displays, one serving as the instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment system. The phone integration, when connected to my phone via Apple CarPlay, would sometimes choke. I did see this on other Nissan vehicles, and it feels like it’s a software update away from being great.

Driving:

We are at a point where it’s difficult to say that vehicles have any negative driving tendencies unless they’re quite apparent. The Murano drives fine; quiet and smooth. Even with 21-inch wheels, it had a good amount of rubber around to withstand Boston’s potholes. The suspension is equally tuned for comfort.

Final Thoughts:

The 2025 Nissan Murano starts at $40,000 and goes to about $50,000 as seen here. It is comfortable, roomy, and functional. It drives nice and does everything well, aside from the mentioned engine harshness. Compared to others in this class, and there are many, there is unfortunately not much that giving the Murano any kind of an advantage, but it is worth considering.
