Mazda’s latest six or seven-seat SUV arrives in Australian showrooms next month with petrol, diesel, or plug-in hybrid options, starting from under $55,000 before on-road costs.

- Elongated three-row version of CX-60 to be offered in four variants
- Petrol, diesel, or plug-in hybrid powertrains for Australia
- Priced from $54,950 before on-road costs
The 2025 Mazda CX-80 – an elongated three-row version of the CX-60 – has been detailed for Australia ahead of its launch next month.
Mirroring the three powertrains offered by its smaller twin – an inline-six ‘G40e’ petrol, inline-six ‘D50e’ diesel, or four-cylinder ‘P50e’ plug-in hybrid – the Mazda CX-80 will be offered in Australia across four variants: Pure, Touring, GT and Azami.
The entry-level Pure grade is unique to the CX-80 – where it is limited to the inline-six petrol expected to account for the most volume based on the sales performance of the CX-60 and CX-90 in Australia.
The three-row Mazda CX-80 is smaller in all dimensions than the two-row CX-70 as the former is intended for Europe while the latter is a wider vehicle for the North American market – however Mazda Australia has elected to take all four Large Architecture vehicles.
Local executives have admitted there will be “some overlap” between the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 but believe there will not be any cannibalisation of sales by offering all four models as buyers of each vehicle are said to have different tastes.
The Mazda CX-80 measures 4990mm long – making it 250mm longer than the CX-60 and 130mm shorter than the CX-90 – while it rides on the same 3120mm wheelbase as the CX-70 and CX-90.

The Mazda CX-80 line-up starts from $54,950 before on-road costs for the G40e Pure and tops out at $87,200 for the top-of-the-range P50e Azami plug-in hybrid.
Standard equipment for the CX-80 Pure has been reduced in some ways compared to the CX-60 Evolve – which helps the CX-80 to undercut its smaller sibling by $5600 – however, Mazda Australia could elect to reduce this gap with a future update to the smaller model.
For context, the Mazda CX-60 starts from $60,550 before on-road costs for the G40e Evolve and rises to $86,800 for the top-of-the-line P50e Azami.
Highlights for the CX-80 Pure include 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, black cloth upholstery, manual seat adjustment, and a full suite of active safety equipment.
Missing features in the CX-80 Pure compared to the CX-60 Evolve include a wireless phone charger, an electric tailgate, and Maztex leather-accented upholstery – but the CX-80 Pure includes a 360-degree camera, driver monitoring camera and front cross-traffic alert not standard in the CX-60.
The CX-80 also follows the MX-5, CX-30, Mazda 3, and CX-70 in receiving Mazda Connected Services as standard across the range.
The service, which debuted in Australia at the start of 2024, adds a built-in SIM card to allow the vehicle to automatically call emergency services in the event of a collision.
Accessible through the ‘MyMazda’ application, drivers can also locate their vehicle, remotely check items such as tyre pressures, lock the car, flash the headlights, set a geofence, or set a curfew.
Mazda Connected Services is complimentary from the first three years once the vehicle is registered, when an annual subscription will then be required. The brand has not confirmed subscription details.
Stepping up to the CX-80 Touring unlocks access to the inline-six diesel or four-cylinder plug-in hybrid – in addition to the inline-six petrol available in the Pure – along with black leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, a wireless phone charger, second-row window sunshades, and an electric tailgate.
The CX-80 GT adds 20-inch alloy wheels, a larger infotainment screen with touch support, a Bose audio system, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and adaptive LED headlights.
At the top of the line-up, the Azami includes black Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a see-through view for its 360-degree camera, Cruising and Traffic Support (traffic jam assist), and an upgraded driver personalisation system.
An SP package is available for the CX-80 Azami for an additional $5000 with second-row captain’s chairs – reducing its seat count to six – ventilated second-row seats, black exterior trim, tan Nappa leather upholstery, a two-tone steering wheel, and a suede finish for its dashboard panel.
A full specification list for the Mazda CX-80 is available below.
Australian buyers are offered a choice of a 209kW/450Nm turbocharged ‘G40e’ 3.3-litre inline six-cylinder petrol, a 187kW/550Nm ‘D50e’ 3.3-litre diesel, or a ‘P50e’ plug-in hybrid (PHEV) combining a 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder with an electric motor to produce 241kW and 500Nm.
All powertrains are matched with an eight-speed multi-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive, while inline-six versions include a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
Combined fuel consumption for the CX-80 G40e is rated at 8.4L/100km – 1.0L more than a petrol CX-60 – the ‘D50e’ is listed at 5.2L/100km – 0.3L more than a diesel CX-60 – and 2.7L/100km for the ‘P50e’, 0.6L more than a plug-in hybrid CX-60.
Mazda Australia says the CX-80 will serve as a replacement for the now-discontinued CX-8 three-row SUV, but now the brand is left without a seven-seat SUV below $50,000.
