Mahindra’s budget-priced XUV700 SUV has gained a better-equipped, blacked-out flagship variant in Australia.

  • Black Edition added with styling, equipment additions
  • Turbo-petrol power and seven seats
  • Priced from $36,990 drive-away

The 2025 Mahindra XUV700 seven-seat family SUV has gained a Black Edition in Australia, available in showrooms now.

Priced from $43,990 drive-away, the Black Edition costs $4000 more than the high-grade XUV700 AX7L variant on which it is based.

Mahindra’s new variant gains a gloss black finish for the 18-inch alloy wheels, a blacked-out front grille, and black leather upholstery in place of the white trim in regular XUV700 model grades.

Also added is memory functionality for the side mirrors, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (on top of wired), ventilated front seats, and black dashboard wrapping.

Features shared with the AX7L include dual 10.25-inch screens for instruments and infotainment, LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and start, and a suite of safety features.

It is powered by the same 149kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as other variants, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.

Mahindra claims fuel consumption of 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres, and a braked towing capacity of 1500kg.

The XUV700 measures 4695mm long, 1890mm wide and 1755mm tall, on a 2750mm wheelbase – similar in size to a Mitsubishi Outlander or Honda CR-V, and slightly larger than a Toyota RAV4.

Prices for the cheapest XUV700 start from $36,990 drive-away, making it the cheapest new seven-seater on sale in Australia.

However, the base model misses out on certain safety features – blind-spot cameras and a driver’s knee airbag – that are standard on dearer model grades, as well as across the model line-ups of key rivals.

The 2025 Mahindra XUV700 Black Edition is available now. It will initially be a limited edition, rather than a permanent variant.

Mahindra vehicles are covered by a seven-year/150,000km warranty, with the brand claiming it has more than 75 dealers around Australia – but it is still yet to publish its sales data through the car industry’s VFACTS reports.
