Australia’s newest all-electric ute will arrive on local soil next month, but it isn’t available to buy just yet.
Chinese commercial-vehicle brand JAC will bring its 2025 T9 EV (electric vehicle) to next month’s Melbourne Motor Show, marking the first time the LDV eT60 and eTerron 9 competitor has touched local soil.
Featuring an 88kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and dual electric motors, the JAC T9 EV has previously been confirmed for Australia, but the trail has run cold since plans for JAC utes on local roads were first announced more than two years ago.
Today, a spokesperson for JAC Motor Australia said plans have changed since that initial confirmation.
“The JAC T9 EV has a lot to offer Australian ute buyers and businesses keen to embrace zero-emission motoring. However, a decision has not been made on if or when it might go on sale in Australia.”
It would be among the only electric 4×4 one-tonne utes available in Australia if introduced locally, following the LDV eTerron 9.
With a combined output of 220kW/516Nm, the electric JAC outmuscles diesel-powered rivals like the Toyota HiLux (150kW/500Nm) and Nissan Navara (140kW/450Nm).
However, its 8.5-second 0-100km/h acceleration time is slower than the Ford Ranger Raptor and BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid, and it is limited to a driving range of 330km under European WLTP testing.
With DC fast-charging capabilities, the battery can be recharged from 15 to 80 per cent in a claimed 40 minutes, at up to 88kW.
There is also vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing buyers to power devices on the go.
The current T9 line-up features two grades, the Oasis and Haven, priced at $42,662 and $45,630 before on-road costs respectively, undercutting big-name rivals.
Expect the T9 EV to be more expensive if introduced. For reference, the LDV eT60 electric ute, only available in 4×2 dual-cab form, is priced from $92,990.
The JAC T9 EV will be shown alongside the JAC De-Fine concept – also its first time on Aussie soil – and the brand’s local Managing Director, Ahmed Mahmoud, has called out the brand’s commitment to reducing tailpipe emissions.
“The JAC T9 EV dual-cab ute is further proof of JAC Motors’ standing as one of China’s leading innovators in sustainable motoring and EV technology,” Mahmoud said in a media statement.
“With its powerful electric drivetrain, comfortable interior and hard-working credentials, the JAC T9 EV proves that environmental responsibility and work-life versatility can co-exist.”
