The Honda Civic Type R hot hatch will become available to order in blue for the Australian market from next week, while its Rally Red option has been removed.

Blue will return to the Honda Civic Type R hot hatch in Australia after a four-year absence, the brand has confirmed.

For the first time since the previous-generation Honda Civic Type R departed local showrooms in 2021, the performance model will soon be available to order in the Racing Blue pearlescent finish, joining the existing white, grey and black colours.

A Honda Australia spokesperson confirmed the brand has removed Rally Red from the Type R’s colour palette, with the new blue colour set to take its place.

Racing Blue was last offered in Australia in 2021 with the previous-generation Type R, but it remained available overseas with the latest model, including in the US, where it is marketed as ‘Boost Blue Pearl’.

“For the Australian market, Honda offers various exterior paint colours for the Civic Type R including the iconic Championship White, Sonic Grey and Crystal Black,” the Honda Australia spokesperson added.

“There will be an additional blue colour launched into the Australian market late next week.”

The representative said Honda is currently facing limited stock of the Civic Type R in Australia due to “higher than expected demand”.

“We are working closely with our factory [in Japan] to secure additional stock.”

Expressions of interest have opened for the updated Civic Type R, with details set to be formally announced “late next week”.

Honda has not confirmed if the Type R will mirror updates recently applied to the standard Civic hatchback, which went hybrid-only in Australia when it launched in late 2024.

Revisions which could be applied to future versions of the Civic Type R include new Android-based infotainment software with Google Built-In services, and faster response times and a revised interface for its built-in Honda Connect telematics service.

A ‘Racing Black Package’ with black seats instead of red was recently added in Japan, but has not been confirmed for Australia.

The current 2025 Honda Civic Type R is priced from $74,100 drive-away in Australia, up from $72,600 when it arrived in local showrooms two years ago.
