Space is the final frontier, but it is also an important consideration when buying a new vehicle. Compact SUVs force shoppers who need to transport five people—and sometimes more—to take a hard look at what they’re buying. Anyone looking for extra interior room should start with the 2025 Buick Envision and the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan. The Envision offers a near-luxury experience at a reasonable price, while the Tiguan offers a lot of value, fresh new style, and technology.
Let’s check out the two SUVs to see what they have to offer.
2025 Buick Envision

With a modern look and room for five passengers, the Buick Envision is an appealing option for compact SUV buyers. The styling of its spacious cabin, filled with technology, complements the exterior. It’s designed to be a comfortable, competent vehicle with good road manners, which aligns it with the rest of the Buick portfolio.
Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the Envision puts out 228 horsepower, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard. It comes with plenty of nice touches, such as wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a hands-free tailgate. A slew of advanced driver safety technology is available in the middle and upper trim levels. The Envision is available in three trim levels — Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir.
Buick Envision Highlights
Massaging seats: An option in the Avenir trim, massaging front seats knead their occupants into full-on luxury vehicle territory. These seats, covered in perforated leather, also have heating and ventilation.
Tech savvy: The standard Technology 1 package includes a head-up display and a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system. We love to see these tech features come standard on every trim of the Buick Envision.
Elegant interior: The first thing you’ll notice in the new Envision’s interior is a digital instrument cluster mounted flush with an expansive infotainment touchscreen. It stretches 30 inches diagonally and wouldn’t look out of place in a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Genesis product. Upper trims have niceties like perforated leather upholstery, massaging front seats, and a digital rearview camera.

2025 Volkswagen Tiguan

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is all-new, with a bold new style and a 2-row-only layout. The previous model’s third-row seating is no longer available. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to updates, but it’s a headline item.
In place of a third-row option, the new Tiguan focuses on a more spacious 2-row, 5-passenger layout and more cutting-edge technology. Among its new interior features is a 10.25-inch driver display and a 12.9-inch center touchscreen. The latter can be upgraded to a 15-inch screen.
The Tiguan is near the top of the compact SUV segment in size, and VW has upgraded its powerplant for 2025. It’s still a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine, but it now produces 201 hp compared to the previous 184 hp.
Volkswagen Tiguan Highlights
4Motion: Front-wheel drive is standard, but the Tiguan can be upgraded with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. The Tiguan offers different driving modes, such as Normal, Sport, and Eco. With 4Motion, you also get Snow and Off-Road modes, making it ready to handle various situations.
Comfort, space, and style: The previous Tiguan offered ample cabin space and, just as importantly, a comfortable ride, and we expect the same from the all-new Tiguan. The new cabin is classy and uncluttered, with optional American walnut trim and quilted leather seats among the upgrades.
Tech-forward: In addition to the screen upgrades in the new 2025 Tiguan, there’s a new Driving Experience Dial to control the infotainment system and Drive Mode Select, standard wireless device charging, four 45-watt USB-C fast chargers, and the latest IQ.DRIVE safety system, plus an available head-up display (HUD).

Conclusion
The Buick Envision provides a premium interior cabin and is an excellent option for a trip of any length. However, the VW Tiguan delivers more space, including a small third row and a great interior, for nearly $7,000 less. If space and function are the driving factors, you might be drawn to the more affordable and efficient Tiguan.
