BMW’s high-performance M division has a long history of building special-edition models, but the 2025 BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 takes exclusivity to a new level. Priced at $155,000, this limited-run coupe isn’t just BMW’s most expensive M4 ever—it also comes with a unique perk: the chance to meet nine-time motorcycle world champion Valentino Rossi.
This ultra-rare M4 pays tribute to Rossi’s legendary career and his iconic number 46, which he has carried throughout his time in MotoGP. Limited to just 92 units worldwide, the M4 CS Edition VR46 is based on the already-exclusive M4 CS, but with a series of bespoke cosmetic upgrades that make it a true collector’s item.
What Sets the M4 CS Edition VR46 Apart?
At its core, the M4 CS Edition VR46 is mechanically identical to the standard M4 CS, meaning it still packs BMW’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six with 543 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive, allowing for blistering acceleration:
- 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds
- 0-124 mph in 11.1 seconds
- Electronically limited top speed of 188 mph
But while the performance remains unchanged, the visual enhancements make this M4 truly one-of-a-kind. The VR46 Edition is available in two exclusive colors:
- Marina Bay Blue Metallic
- Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic (matte finish)
Only 46 cars will be produced in each color, further reinforcing the significance of Rossi’s racing number. To complete the bold look, BMW has added Sao Paulo Yellow accents, inspired by Rossi’s signature fluorescent yellow racing gear. This color is seen on the brake calipers, forged wheels (marking the tire valve stem), and exterior graphics.
The number 46 is hand-painted on the exterior, while the roof features Valentino Rossi’s autograph. Additional “VR46” badging is present on the doorsills, seats, and rear fascia, ensuring there’s no mistaking the special status of this model.
A Price Tag to Match Its Exclusivity
At $155,000, the M4 CS Edition VR46 is a whopping $31,500 more expensive than the standard M4 CS (which was already limited to 1,700 units). It also costs $15,100 more than the track-focused M4 CSL, which featured a lighter, two-seater configuration and was capped at just 1,000 units.
To put that into perspective:
- The base BMW 430i Coupe starts at around $50,000, meaning the VR46 Edition is three times the price.
- Even the M4 Competition xDrive, which shares a similar powertrain, is nearly $80,000 cheaper.
That makes the M4 CS Edition VR46 the most expensive M4 ever built. However, it’s still far from the priciest M car in BMW’s history. That title likely belongs to the BMW 3.0 CSL (50 units built), which was rumored to cost around $750,000.
A VIP Experience with Valentino Rossi
One of the biggest selling points of the M4 CS Edition VR46 is the VIP experience that comes with it. Buyers won’t just drive away in a special M4—they’ll also receive an invitation to meet Valentino Rossi in Italy at his VR46 Motor Ranch in Tavullia.
The experience includes:
- A personal meet-and-greet with Rossi
- A barbecue at the VR46 Motor Ranch
- A track experience at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, where owners can test out the latest BMW M models
For hardcore Rossi fans and BMW enthusiasts, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity might justify the hefty price tag.
A Future Collector’s Item?
With only 92 units available worldwide and an undisclosed number allocated for the U.S., the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 is one of the most exclusive M4 models ever built. While its price is steep, its combination of rarity, special design elements, and a VIP experience with one of motorsport’s biggest legends could make it a future collector’s item.
If you’re an M car enthusiast and a Valentino Rossi fan, this might be the ultimate BMW to add to your garage.
