The Good:
-The sound insulation. It light years quieter than the previous cars. Maybe it’s the laminated windows, maybe more sound insulation? Either way it’s far more pleasurable to drive than the 2021.
-The ride. It’s so much smoother than previous cars. Not perfect, but maybe the Pirelli’s are finally true?
-The gas mileage. I’ve exceeded 27mpg on long road trips, and almost always get over 25mpg on every fill up. That is very impressive from such a small boosted engine. This is done even while defeating the auto start/stop by placing it in manual at any stops.
-The color. Denim Blue is gorgeous. That’s all.
-Full screen apple car play. That was a big L from Sensus based Volvo’s.
-Orrefors shifter on a non-PHEV. One of our favorite features.
The Bad:
-Electrical gremlins. False TPMS alert and parking sensors/BLIS alerts. Thankfully they both only happened once.
-Bowers & Wilkins rattles. These are the biggest disappointments about the system on both our cars. Rattles around the top tweeter and rear passenger door speakers. I’ve chased these rattles constantly and can usually put felt tape around enough areas to get them to stop. Until they come back .
-No sport key. Volvo really manipulated the “chip shortage” to their benefit by screwing customers to save pennies.
-“Ghost Shake” is still present just like all Volvo’s I’ve owned and almost every Volvo loaner I’ve driven. It is far less dramatic and less frequent at least. On the same roads, same conditions, same speeds, same lanes, it can be present one day but gone the next.
-The automatic reverse braking. Holy hell this is the worst feature of the car. It’s been inaccurate 100% of the time. And each time it’s skull jarring. I’ve thought I collided with something each time. Turns out it’s just too sensitive and doesn’t work for anyone who uses mirrors to park. And there’s no way to disengage the locked brakes without putting it in park first, then going back to reverse or drive. I turn it off immediately when it’s put into reverse. I hope a software update can correct this unsafe and dumb system.
-The Google system is hit or miss. The constant logging out of my profile without notice is super annoying.
-Software. Had several occurrences of freezing requiring a full reboot on 3.0.3. 3.1.9 was the most stable. Currently on 3.1.16, the touch feedback is delayed in ways it never was before. Sure would be nice to see the media on the center screen. I’ll now wait a few weeks before downloading any new updates. Volvo seems to stop their updates frequently due to bugs that early adopters are stuck with. However, the jerky-ness of the gas pedal and brake pedal are much more improved with this update. Shifting seems more refined and it’s much closer to my 2021 which is liquid smooth with acceleration, shifting, and braking.
-Rear passenger windows have a haze. I had 5% tint installed on the rear side and rear windows, just the same as my 2021. I didn’t realize this would make it nearly impossible to see out the rear passenger windows at night due to the bizarre haze. I’ve only seen this on newer Volvo’s and there are plenty of reports of the same.
-For anyone else who has done an oil change on a B variant. My oil filter wrench gets wedged against a part of the undercarriage. It’s difficult to wiggle the wrench out when removing the housing. This is an updated design compared to our others. Anyone else have a slightly thinner diameter wrench they’re using that makes this easier?
-Start/Stop. I’m being OCD here. But this system is inefficient and there’s zero chance this does anything with prolonging the life of the car. Within a minute of pulling out of the garage and driving through the neighborhood at low speed at 40 degree F temps, the system is active. Engine and oil temp isn’t even close to reaching operating temperature. Really good feeling having to floor it when pulling onto the main roads after the engine is still cold and was off.
Overall we are happy we pulled the trigger on this one even with the gripes. The CPO warranty is unlimited miles through 2033. Hope we don’t have to use it, but history says we will. Anyways, that’s all. Here’s a photo after some detailing.
