VIDA shows these steps for replacement:
- Take off engine cover, trim off a rectangular piece of foam right above where the sensor is. I just cut it with a utility knife
- Remove old sensor
- Loosen clips holding the fuel line
- Remove the fuel line going into the sensor from the firewall. You need a special fuel rail disconnect tool for this.
- Loosen the clips holding the plastic duct and replace with new one
- Reinstall everything, make sure to click the fuel line into the new sensor and push down on the clip.
- Observe there is no leaks
Parts needed:
Pressure sensor, 31432653
Feed line, 31669066
Cable harness duct, 31450489
I did not have a new line and duct due to the confusion below. I trimmed off part a bit from the old duct that is interfering with the new sensor connector. The retaining clip on the sensor also does not seem to want to fully click into place on the old fuel line. I would recommend ordering all the above parts or the kit below for anyone doing this.
@carlos_roque or anyone else looking at FCP Euro who saw this:
Those part numbers on the FCP Euro description are NOT for the SPA XC90s. The description comes from Technical Journal 33676, which is for the P3 series. I confirmed it in VIDA – those PNs do not show up under the 2016 SPA XC90, but does show up on P3 S60 (and likely many other P3s too).
The correct TJ for SPA is TJ 33794, which calls for kit 32242869:
If the car is equipped with a Cooper LPS P/N 31478293/31405791, replace it with a new Sensata sensor P/N 31432653 that is included in a kit P/N 32242869 together with the appropriate feed line packed in a plastic bag. All required parts are included in the kit. Follow the instructions on how to replace the involved parts in VIDA VCC-412342-12. – Please notice that the feed line P/N 31669066 included in the kit always needs to be replaced when a replacement of the LPS is needed.
I did not notice the TJ said P3 until I ordered the sensor from FCP Euro and could not figure out what it is supposed to replace. I thought the parts in the picture looked nothing like what I have on the car, but thought I would figure it out with the parts in hand. Should’ve read this thread and I would’ve seen the right kit PN posted years ago.
