1999 V70R Project – Another Swede in Need | SwedeSpeed

Hello All –

Allow me to introduce my latest acquisition – a 1999 V70R with 96k miles. I’ll start out by stating I most definitely do not need another project but when I saw this listed on CoPart I had to save it.

Details on the auction listing were sparse but from the pictures it looked to be an honest example in all original condition with the odometer showing a little over 96k miles (4k a year). While the mileage looked questionable I decided to take a leap of faith and go for it and thankfully it has proved to be the best bad decision I’ve made this week :)

The car was collected from CoPart yesterday and flat bedded to a rented storage space. I live in NYC and sadly have zero space to work comfortably on the car so this space will serve as storage for now and a workshop when the time comes for the resurrection.

I only had 30 minutes with the car yesterday but my initial impressions look to be correct and this does appear to be an all original example that up until recent times was well cared for. The auction listed the car as being a charity donation that was running & driving – unfortunately the battery was completely dead and the best I could achieve with jump leads and the limited time I had was a few slow turnovers but the engine sounds strong and it should hopefully spark into life once it’s had a full service.

The service sticker indicates the last service was in April 2020 and the car has covered 3k miles since then – the timing cover shows that the belt was done during the same service but for peace of mind I intend on carrying out a full stage 0 tune along with new timing belt kit before the car is put back into service.

First order of business will be to fully recommission and to address all mechanical faults but once that’s complete I plan on carrying out some mods to make the car a little more driver focused. I already have some parts stockpiled that were originally intended for my 855R but I have decided to keep that car as original as possible so the V70R will now become the beneficiary of those parts.

Below is a partial list of mods I hope to carry out: (if anyone has any of these parts they are willing to sell, please DM me)

* Suspension (research needed here but looking for a fast road setup with a modest drop)
* Chassis Bracing (Strut Braces, ARBs, Bushings)
* Tailgate Spoiler
* Big Brake Kit (have already)
* 17″ Wheels & Tires to clear bigger brakes (Possibly Comets or Pegasus)
* Jewel Headlights & Corner Lights
* Eggcrate Grille
* Dual exit exhaust

Long term plans if I keep the car would be to do a manual swap (retaining AWD) and a full engine rebuild – (not a crazy horsepower build, add some usable power without compromising reliability)

That’s it for now, next step is planning and parts procurement but I’ll do my best to update this thread as things progress.
