1997 Volvo 850R Wagon – Red/Charcoal

Reluctantly listing my Volvo for sale. I absolutely love this car, so it kills me to list it for sale. Sadly, I probably need to get into something a bit newer (maybe a 2006/07 P2R). The only other car that can tempt me is a yellow T5-R, but we know those are nearly unobtanium these days.

Over the last few years, I have been trying to restore the car to its former glory and will continue to do so here and there until it is sold. It absolutely rips and has been super reliable since I took it to Rolling Motors and had Ben go through it front to back. Many months and $3500 later, I took the car home in the dead of winter via a 3-hour drive with zero hiccups.

I am trying to represent the car as best as I can, and will take pics of any part of the car if requested. I bought the car with a little over 119k on it in 2023, and it only has 120.5k on it now, so it does not get driven much. It mostly sits in the garage on a trickle charger and comes out on nice days when I can sneak away for a quick drive on local backroads. I have had it on the highway and it was completely fine.

The Good:

  • 120,5xx miles on chassis
  • Rn Swapped 2002 T5 motor with ~50K miles on it (B5234T3) – TB + WP done at the time of the swap, maybe ~20k miles on the setup.
  • M56 manual trans swapped in (~100k+ miles)
  • Quaife LSD – supposedly PO converted from internal to external slave cylinder, and replaced all bearings when he installed the LSD
  • Stock 850 R clutch
  • VAST Tuning Euro R tune
  • 3 keys
  • Newer battery
  • New radiator
  • 05+ Power Steering Reservoir
  • New 302mm Big brake upgrade with new pads/rotors/hoses
  • New Parking brake cables
  • XC70 “Euro” roof rails
  • Black eggcrate grille
  • Upgraded Yother + Whiteblock Racing hood latch release setup
  • OEM E-code headlights
  • DEPO E-code corner lights
  • Charcoal interior in decent shape, some vinyl parts cracked on the driver’s seat
  • Full set of R carpet and winter floor mats
  • R door sills
  • Uncracked and undrilled R front bumper
  • Practically new Vredestein Hypertrac 215/45/17 on stock Volans
  • 5 Volans (including spare) in decent shape
  • Complete suspension refresh less than 10000 miles ago: regular front springs with Monroe struts, Lesjofers HD rear springs with Bilstein B4 shocks, new strut bushings, bump stops, control arms
  • Conical 3″ downpipe 16T turbo
  • IPD/TME 2.5″ cat back exhaust
  • IPD rear sway bar
  • DO88 intercooler
  • Silicone hoses
  • 1 1/4 curt receiver hitch, wiring kit not installed but included (from PO)

The Bad:

  • Supposedly the CD player won’t play, but tuner works – it has an old school 30-pin iPod adaptor connected to the cd changer (untested)
  • I haven’t tested the cassette player either
  • Updated infinity speakers in the dash
  • Wrong dash trim – I do have a full dark walnut dash and center console setup waiting to be installed
  • Headliner drooping (I have a kit to replace it)
  • Tint has started to fail – looks to be relatively new and should be easy to remove
  • Paint is decent, but there are bumps and scrapes on the bumpers, and some areas were clear-coated which has begun to fail
  • High pitch horn is not working – I purchased new horns and will install prior to sale
  • Washer fluid reservoir leaks – I replaced the motor, and must have inadvertently jiggled something loose
  • HVAC is on the fritz – blend doors work when they want to, A/C is non-operational at this moment in time

So many extra parts to go with it:

  • V70 upper tail lights
  • receiver hitch wiring kit
  • Japanifold
  • RIP Kit
  • extra R Dash and console
  • A thick manila folder with all parts purchased from the PO
  • Anything else I have that came with the car will stay with the car

I am willing to answer questions and to entertain offers. I am in no rush to sell, but I would really like to see this car go to an enthusiast.
