I don’t know about you, but I think we’re past the age of outrageous limousines. It seems as if luxed-up Sprinter vans are the vehicle of choice for groups that want to party and travel in style. Sure, I see a stretched Hummer H2 every now and then, but limos like those are from what appears to be a bygone era. Our Pick of the Day, a 1996 Dodge Viper RT/10 limousine posted for sale on ClassicCars.com by a dealership in St. Louis, Missouri, is from a time when custom coachbuilders took cars that were already distinctive and made them absolutely impossible to miss.
With that in mind, Unique Movie Cars Las Vegas Inc. certainly started with the perfect car. The second-generation (aka SR II) Dodge Viper RT/10 roadster that came out for the 1996 model year had the same basic bold, curvaceous, muscular bodywork as its predecessor, but came with a series of mechanical and cosmetic updates. The biggest visual change was the switch from side pipes to center-mounted dual outlets at the rear. Under the massive hood, output from the 8.0-liter V10 went up to 415 horsepower and 488 lb-ft of torque.
Then it was time to make the snake even longer. UMCLVI didn’t hold back. Once they separated the head from the tail, they filled the space with a substantial extension. According to the selling dealer, this Viper now “seats 10 comfortably” on bucket and bench seats (although that probably changes when it’s raining because there is no roof on this odd creation). Occupants can get amped up for the wedding or bachelor party or bar/bat mitzvah they’re about to attend by cranking the volume on the “boomin sound system.”
Another major change to this Viper is what’s under the hood. For some reason, the original V10 has been replaced with a 360ci V8. That’s connected to an automatic transmission, which still uses a Viper’s manual shift knob.
There’s no doubt this is a wild build, but I’ve learned that there’s a car for everyone. Perhaps you have a tour business and want to give your customers an unforgettable experience. Maybe you have an automotive museum and you’re in search of a unique exhibit. Or you’re just a car nut who wants something that nobody else has. Whatever the case may be, this 1996 Dodge Viper RT/10 limousine is just what you’re looking for. You can make it yours for $155,000.
