1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow LWB

A Rolls-Royce, to some, is a car not to drive, but to be driven in. If you want a taste of what it felt like to be an indulgent member of society from about five decades ago, have your chauffeur pick you up in this:

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 27,000-mile 1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow LWB. The car is being offered by a private seller in Elyria, Ohio, and the auction will end tomorrow, Friday, December 20.

The Silver Shadow luxury sedan was produced from 1965 to 1980 and had some advanced features for its time, including unibody construction and a high-pressure hydraulic self-leveling suspension for maximum comfort.

After all, the Silver Shadow was designed to be the ultimate in plush executive travel. And it was designed to perform for the long haul: One of the magazine ads for the car said, “A serious alternative to this nonsense of trading in your car every three years.” It went on to say, “If you buy a new home, you expect it to last a lifetime, even if you decide to move away. Why then should an automobile be any different?”

Finished in Acrylic White and fitted with a contrasting black vinyl top, this Silver Shadow is of the long-wheelbase variety. The cabin is appointed with red leather upholstery and Italian walnut trim. While the seats show some wear and tear, that can be expected for a car that’s pushing 50 years old. Rear quarters, therefore, are commodious as one would expect; amenities include footrests, cigarette lighters, power windows, courtesy lighting, and map pockets.

Up front, power comes from a 6.8-liter V8 mated to a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic 400 automatic transmission. Fuel injection is handled via a Bosch K-Jetronic electronic system. When it was new, Rolls-Royce rated the car at around 200 horsepower. The seller says that the indicated 27,398 miles are original, but there are a few mechanical needs (such as an oil leak) to address.

As a starter car for a showroom-quality restoration or a classy driver as-is, this car will have you looking like a successful entrepreneur. If the price is right, you can even afford to hire someone to drive you around in it. What better way to make a flashy entrance at your upcoming holiday parties?

The auction for this 27,000-mile 1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow LWB will end Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:15 a.m. (MST).
